Held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony featured stunning red carpet looks and plenty of style inspiration. Red, white and blue were the major colors and halter necklines made a comeback.

Red Dresses
While red used to be considered a risky choice for the red carpet, plenty of celebrities opted for the eye catching color this year. Allison Williams rocked a dramatic Armani Privé gown, Viola Davis opted for Donna Karan Atelier, while Lena Dunham had one of her best style moments in Zac Posen.
Many other stars wore red, including Julianna Margulies in Ulyana Sergeenko and Helen Mirren in Dolce & Gabbana.
Metallic Gowns
One of the best 2020 Golden Globes red carpet trends featured metallics that allowed stars to shine on the big day. “Fifty Shades of Grey” star Dakota Johnson opted for a sparkling Chanel number. Julianne Moore chose a Givenchy gown, while Reese Witherspoon wore a silver Calvin Klein dress.
White Gowns
Pristine white was another popular color choice for the red carpet. Emily Blunt made the best dressed list with a stunning white Michael Kors gown. Julia Louis-Dreyfus opted for a one shoulder dress by Narciso Rodriguez. Co-host of the ceremony Tina Fey went for a different approach to the trend, adding a touch of black to her custom embellished Antonio Berardi dress.
Cut Outs

Rosamund Pike opted for a sexy Vera Wang creation, but the most daring cut outs were part of Kate Hudson’s white Versace dress. Felicity Huffman opted for sheer panels instead of cut outs, but stuck to the white theme.
Blue Gowns
For a very patriotic red carpet, blue was the third major color trend at the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards. Co-host of the ceremony Amy Poehler went for a demure cobalt blue Stella McCartney gown. Supermodel Cindy Crawford chose the same shade, but opted for Versace, while Felicity Jones made a splash on the red carpet in a dramatic Christian Dior teal blue gown.
Belted Dresses
Many dresses featured cinched waists, but belts also turned out to be one of the biggest 2020 Golden Globes red carpet trends. Salma Hayek highlighted her figure in a gorgeous Alexander McQueen gown, and Kate Mara opted for a nude belt paired with her red Miu Miu dress. Naomi Watts kept things monochromatic in her canary yellow Gucci gown, but her belt was also also encrusted with diamonds.
Glamorous Waves
Inspired by old Hollywood, a few celebrities chose to style their hair in retro waves, over a single shoulder. Heidi Klum paired her gorgeous waves with a red Versace Atelier dress, and so did Jessica Chastain. Allison Williams also rocked the trend, choosing to go for a very feminine look after her “Peter Pan Live” performance.
Plunging Necklines
Deep necklines also became one of the big 2020 Golden Globes red carpet trends. While they’re part of Jennifer Lopez’ usual style, the singer also paired a plunging neckline with a high slit in her Zuhair Murad dress. Jessica Chastain was also daring Versace, while Sienna Miller chose an embellished Miu Miu dress with a similarly deep neckline.
Sleek Buns
The other major hair trend of the night was the sleek bun. It showed up as part of Kate Hudson’s look, and Jennifer Aniston also sported a high bun. However, the best interpretation of the style was worn by Anna Kendrick, who paired her tight bun with a Monique Lhuillier gown.
Halter Necklines
Rounding up the 2020 Golden Globes red carpet trends, dresses with halter necklines also made a big impact at the ceremony. Jennifer Aniston opted for a black Saint Laurent dress with a halter, “Orange Is The New Black” star Uzo Aduba wore a Randi Rahm halter dress, while her co-star Taylor Schilling added a twist to the trend with her red Ralph Lauren creation.
