“It’s always about elegance and beauty,” Dries Van Noten said before the Spring 2020 show seen at Paris Fashion Week. And it was indeed an incredible demonstration of elegance and exquisiteness. The classy vibe of the Dries Van Noten Spring 2020 collection was amplified by the color palette which included black, navy, and white, but also magenta, green, and cinnamon. The Belgian designer managed to create an impressive line based on photos of seascapes, exotic forests and cities at night.
London, New York, Beirut, Marseilles, and hotel Circus Circus in las Vegas. Van Noten used the work of Marseille-based British photographer James Reeve for his stunning line. “I didn’t want to use any prints that were created for fabrics,” Dries Van Noten explained. The urban lights illuminating t-shirts and dresses draw all the attention and reflect the designer’s amazing creativity. There is something dreamy about this collection that makes one think of an adventurous getaway.
There were shift dresses, draped skirts, pants, caftans, crisp bell-shaped shirts, tailored military jackets, boleros, and cocoon coats, an ensemble of silhouettes inspired by the Italian and Spanish haute couture of the 1950’s. It seems that the greatest Spanish couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga was Van Noten’s main source of inspiration. The designer also used folkloric embroideries, ruffles, and peplums over pants for his spring 2020 collection.
