As we enjoy the last days of summer, our minds go to the makeup trends for fall/winter 2020-2020. The new season will be here soon anyway, so we might as well be prepared for it. Besides, many important makeup brands have already stocking the shelves with cool new season products, so we can start making our fall/winter 2020-2020 makeup must-have list as we speak.
As always, the fall 2020 runway makeup trends are the best source of inspiration for the new season looks. True, some runway makeup trends are more about art than about real life, but there are plenty of gems hidden in plain sight!
Unsurprisingly, the makeup trends for fall/winter 2020-2020 spotted on the runway are almost as varied as the collections themselves. Still, there were some motifs that surfaced over and over again. Here are some of the most popular makeup looks for the new season:
Makeup Trends for Fall 2020: Wine Colored Lips
If your lips are your best feature, investing in a fab burgundy lipstick shade is one of the easiest ways to update your new season look. Sultry yet dramatic, statement wine toned lips were the go to look for many high end retailers. Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Anthony Vaccarello, Vivienne Tam, Vera Wang, Derek Lam or Miu Miu were some of the fashion houses that brought interesting variations on the wine colored lips trend.
Fall 2020 Makeup: Cat Eyes Makeup Revisited
Black is back and it’s bolder than ever before! There’s no need to hide your love for black eyeliner anymore as it’s a key product for the cold months of 2020-2020. Though saying that there’s no wrong way of wearing black liner might be a bit of a stretch, there are plenty of interesting possibilities to explore this cold season. The cat eyes and smokey cat eyes makeup look, in particular has many interesting variations this season. On the one hand, we’ve seen variations on the ’60s retro makeup look on the Monique Lhullier, Kenzo and Anna Sui runway. On the other hand, some luxury retailers like Michael Kors or Lanvin stepped it up a notch and brought bolder versions of the look.
Fall/Winter 2020 Makeup: 90s Grunge
As we’ve gone through these cool makeup looks, you might have noticed that there are plenty of grunge accents and with good reason: ’90s grunge makes a strong comeback, which means you’ll be seeing plenty of interesting variation on the trend in the upcoming months. Heidi Slimane based the entire Saint Laurent fall 2020 collection on the trend, so it’s one of the best sources of inspiration for fans of the look as is Roberto Cavalli’s fall 2020 line, but there are plenty of interesting alternatives for creating the look that don’t revolve around solely around smokey eyes and dark lips.
Autumnal orange, light grey or prune tones can be an equally great choice for an edgy look. Rodarte, Gucci, Givenchy or Genny were just some of the fashion houses which brought interesting variations on the trend. But the best part about the 90s grunge makeup trend by far is that perfection is not required nor is it encouraged, which means that there’s no need to worry too much about getting everything just right.
Eye Makeup Trends 2020-2020: Metallics and Glitter
Glitter eye makeup is not just for tweens and teens anymore! Metallic accents are everywhere this fa ll from bags to eye shadows, so if you’re reluctant to invest too much in what might be a short lived trend, a glamorous makeup look is the next best strategy for making a statement. Chanel, Donna Karan, J. Mendel or Thakoon are just some of the brands that demonstrated the interesting possibilities that metallic tones and a bit of glitter can provide.
Makeup Trends for Fall 2020: Minimal and Natural
Fortunately for the fans of the ‘no makeup’ look, matte, natural makeup looks are still in for fall/winter 2020 as are power brows. If you don’t feel like going overboard and exploring edgy makeup looks in the months to come, just take inspiration from brands like BCBG Max Azria, Jill Stuart, Temperley London, Ralph Lauren or DKNY for a seemingly effortless day look.
Fall/Winter 2020 Makeup: Bold Colors
If dark tones give you serious affective seasonal disorder symptoms, opt for bold, vibrant tones instead whether it’s a classic bright red lipstick tone or a rich eyeshadow color that tests your confidence. Our favorite sources of inspiration are the classy makeup looks from the Dolce & Gabanna, Tom Ford runway and the gorgeous purple eye makeup look spotted on the Jason Wu runway, a tone from the retailer’s new Jason Wu for Lancome makeup collection.
