Bone cancer is two types primary bone cancer and secondary bone cancer. Primary bone cancer initially begins in the cells of the bone while secondary bone cancer starts in a different part of the body and then spreads to the bone. Ewing sarcoma, Osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma and malignant fibrous histiocytoma are some of the common primary bone cancers.
Below we have little insight about the bone cancers.
Primary Bone Cancer:
Primary bone cancer or tumour can be divided into benign tumours which can have an abnormal tissue growth (neoplastic), traumatic, developmental, inflammatory cause or infectious causes and cancers. Osteoid Osteoma, Osteoma, osteoblastoma and osteochondroma, enchondroma, aneurismal, fibrous dysplasia of bone, giant cell tumour of bone are some of the examples of primary bone cancer.
Secondary Bone Cancer:
Secondary bone cancer can also be divided into malignant primary bone cancer. Ewing sarcoma, Osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma and malignant fibrous histiocytoma are some of the common primary bone cancers. Osteosarcoma is the most common type of bone cancer which usually develops between young adults and children. After brain tumours and leukaemia, bone cancer is the third most common cancer among the children of the United States of America and The United Kingdom.
Chondrosarcoma generally develops in adults and starts in the cartilage cells which then move on to the bones. And the Ewing sarcoma develops in the pelvis, thigh bone or the pelvis. People who are below the age of 20 years generally tend to develop this cancer. This article says about the causes and symptoms of bone cancer disease.
Symptoms And Causes Of Bone Cancer:
Symptoms Of Bone Cancer:
Symptoms are generally what a patient notices and which helps the doctor to diagnose the disease properly. The following are the symptoms of bone cancer:
- A swelling in the affected area.
- Loss of weight without having any intention of losing it.
- A mass lump may have developed in the affected area.
- Fever,
- Chills,
- Night sweats
- Pain in the bone which may increase as the tumour increases or spreads to adjacent cells.
Excessive Bone Pain:
Excessive bone pain is one of the prime symptoms of bone cancer. One cannot just sustain the pain that occurs while one is suffering from bone cancer. Along with sever aches which occur frequently, there is maximum inflation which can take away your sleep. Sometimes the pain is so much that you will have to take the assistance of some medication and painkillers as well. There is no such home therapy or home remedy that can reduce the pain in the bones caused by bone cancer.
One cannot just avoid this pain. Sometimes, this pain is in the legs and the other times the pain is in the upper body limbs. It really depends on one’s capability to sustain it. A person can really fall sick if he or she doesn’t cure this cancer within a specific time. There may be some serious issues regarding this pain as it can be the reason behind the uprising of many other bone issues as well such as excessive swelling in the bones. The pain generally originates in the affected and gradually spreads throughout the body.
Fatigue:
Fatigue is another important symptom among the many bone cancer symptoms. A person will experience serious fatigue issues if he is passing through the final stage of bone cancer. If that individual doesn’t make sure that his problem his solved at this point of time, then there is really nothing much left to be done for him as his or her condition will get really bad. The symptom is common in men than women. According to a medical report and recent survey, it has been seen that in the Asian and American countries as well the cases of bone cancer are rising on a daily basis and this has to be stopped. Even deaths are occurring due to bone cancer.
Weight Loss:
Serious weight loss is one of the most probable symptoms of bone cancer. You may have read about it in the books. There is nothing but logic behind it. Some say that this symptom depends from person to person. But there is nothing like that. Both the genders, and people of almost all ages experience this symptom. If your bones are weak, then there is a high chance that you will be affected with the symptoms of bone cancer.
Now, when you’re suffering from bone cancer, then your bones will loose the calcium content in it, which will further make them weak. There is a certain weight of the bones which adds up with the body weight. If the weight of the bone declines, then naturally the person’s weigh will also fall and this can be really bad for both men and women. So don’t take chances, just take your vitamins.

Li-Fraumeni is a genetic condition which runs in the family. It is the result of a gene fault which is inherited by the parents. Li-Fraumeni raises the risk of different cancers including bone cancer. Retinoblastoma is an eye cancer which is caused due to faulty genes. This cancer when treated with chemotherapy or radiotherapy leads to Osteosarcoma. Hereditary multiple exostoses are another hereditary condition which may increase the chances of bone cancer. People who have a mother who have been diagnosed with a breast cancer also have chances of developing bone cancer later in their life.
6. Ethnicity:
Though it is not clear why but a study has shown that Ewing’s sarcoma is more common among the White Americans than the Black Americans that is the white Americans are nine times likely to suffer from bone cancer than the Black Americans.
7. Being Born With a Hernia:
Children who are born with a hernia are 3 times more likely to have Ewing’s sarcoma. An umbilical hernia is usually caused due to a weakness of the muscle around the belly button. It is believed by the researchers that as the embryo muscle grows, factors which accord to an umbilical hernia also make the child more susceptible to grow Ewing’s sarcoma.
8. The Occupation of Your Parents:
Some of the studies have shown that if either of your parents worked in a farm or your mother spent relatively sometime in the firm while she was pregnant may also contribute to the risk of getting Ewing’s sarcoma.
