The Hills stars succeeded in building a real kingdom of their popularity thanks to the magazine shoots as well as other creative projects they featured in. However soon fame and fortune turned its back on the reality star couple a fact that soon led to their separation. The news that Heidi Montag divorced to save her career didn’t have such a surprising impact on the media and neither on the audience who were kept versed with the latest celebrity gossip that had at the center the Montag-Pratt brand.
Indeed after the recent reconciliation of the two, more and more confessions are revealed related to the rumors that separation was a common plan to in back the grace of the media and fans.
Spencer Pratt told to Life&Style Magazine: “The divorce was real – just the idea behind it was different than most people. Divorcing was the only way to keep Heidi’s career going because everyone hated me so much. Look at Sandra Bullock – her divorce from Jesse James was the best thing to happen to her image.”
The couple was also offered a deal that would cover the screening of the complete separation story. However it seems that destiny was not as graceful with them and the whole project was canceled.
Spencer Pratt was indeed the one who struggled with the hostility of the audience and knew that negative characters might not be the best earning celebs especially when it comes of semi-reality shows.
He also claimed to Life&Style Magazine that “I can’t make regular money because I was playing such an unlikeable character on TV to keep my cheques coming. Who wants to hire the jerk from ‘The Hills’?” Struggling with bankruptcy they decided to come up with a similar plan that would showcase Heidi as the good girl whereas Spencer could vanish from the screens.
