Beautiful Courtney Cox covers the April 2020 issue of Harper’s Bazaar. The 46-year-old actress opens up for the magazine sharing a lot of personal details regarding her marriage and her relationship with husband David Arquette, whom she married 11 years ago, after they met on the set of the first ‘Scream’ back in 1996. Even though the two split last year, they decided to remain committed parents and “best friends”. In fact, Courtney is extremely diplomatic when speaking about her husband.
“If you didn’t hear the Howard Stern interviews and you just read quotes, I’m sure it seemed out of context, crazy. I’m not saying there wasn’t some crazy behavior, but if you know who David is, you know what his intentions are, how honest he is, and how big his heart is,” she told Harper’s Bazaar.
She then added that, “You can’t really get mad at David because he’s not a malicious person. He was dealing with things the best way he could. And don’t get me wrong, he was on a show for entertainment. David is smart, and David is also a showman. He knew what he was doing. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I don’t think he’ll be doing more Howard Stern any time soon. He’s not out to harm. But I’m his biggest protector. I can’t help it.”
Speaking about all the issues a marriage implies and what she expects from a relationship, Courtney says that, “The thing is, when you get older, it’s more about compatibility than it is about love. I think it’s more about needing just a kind of peace and stillness. I’m kind of all over the place, and I need grounding. I want to be calm. I want to change a lot. I want to live not outside but inside. It’s nothing with David; it’s just what I’m searching for.”
Despite the seven-year gap, Courtney, 46, and David, 39, managed to have a happy and successful marriage for 11 years and it seems this was not the reason behind their separation. “Most guys aren’t that mature, are they? They just don’t think the way we think. I thought I had always been a little bit of a cougar with David. I don’t find the whole cougar word that offensive. And also, a cougar is someone who takes care of herself and goes out with younger guys. She doesn’t need a man to take care of her.”
The “Cougar Town” star and David Arquette have a six-year-old daughter, Coco. On whether the split affected her daughter, Courtney admits that, “She’s adjusting. Luckily, we’ve always had two houses so there was no change in her living unit. And we both work a lot, so that wasn’t a huge adjustment. She’s our number-one priority. No matter what happens, she’ll be okay because she knows that she is completely safe, loved, and we’ll protect that more than anything in the world.”
This month, Courtney reprises her role as Gale Weathers in ‘Scream 4’. It was on the set of the hit movie ‘Scream’, in 1996, where Courtney and David met and fell in love and by ‘Scream 3’ they were married. “It was where David and I fell in love, so it’s a very special thing we get to keep doing,” she says.
