Beyonce Accused of Plagiarism in New Countdown Video

Beyonce Accused of Plagiarism in New Countdown Video

Beyonce seems to have found herself on a ‘hot spot’ as she has been recently accused of plagiarism by a Belgian choreographer named Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. The woman claims that Beyonce has copied several moves from her choreography in her latest video for her single ‘Countdown’.

Beyonce stated in an interview with Australia’s Sunday Night TV show that she is a huge fan of dance and that definitely shows as Beyonce’s video choreographies have gone viral more than once. The diva said in the interview that: “I always try to think of a new way to move the body and I try to treat choreography like I do a hit song and I try to think of things that are going to make people wanna dance and move around and dance in the clubs or dance at their school plays or whatever.”

Beyonce knew since she was five that she wanted to be on stage and it seems that her experience and talent have helped her become the superstar she is today. But could the plagiarism accusation leave a negative print over her career? The Belgian choreographer told a Danish blog that: “I didn’t know anything about this. I’m not mad, but this is plagiarism.”

There are two dance routines in Beyonce’s video that have sparked the plagiarism suspicions, one on which Beyonce is behind bars featuring three dancers in the background, and a very similar set is seen on Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s video. The second scene that caused a stir seems very similar to the choreography from Achterland.

In an interview with MTV News Adria Petty, Beyonce’s co-director said that the choreography was inspired by European contemporary dance. She said that: “I brought Beyoncé a number or references and we picked some out together. Most were German modern dance references, believe it or not.”

However, no response to the plagiarism accusations yet, so take a peek at the similarities between the videos and tell us what you think!
