Mark Wahlberg Under Fire For 9/11 Comments

Mark Wahlberg can definitely take over the enemy on the set but what about in real life? Well, it seems that there’s at least one person who thinks that he can and that is the actor himself. The 40 year old came under fire after his comments regarding the 9/11 tragedy hit the media. He told Men’s Journal that if he had been on that plane that day thing wouldn’t have turned out as they did.

This comment triggered a massive amount of attention from the families of 9/11 victims that cataloged his remark as disrespectful. Mark Wahlberg revealed that he had a flight ticket booked for one of the 9/11 planes that were taken over by terrorists and diverted into the World Trade Center. He dodged the bullet by changing his mind at the last second as he decided to fly to Toronto instead.

Apparently, Mark Wahlberg told Mens Journal in an exclusive interview for the magazine’s February 2020 issue that if he had boarded that flight that crashed into the World Trade Center on 9/11 things would have had a different turn and that triggered a massive wave of criticism from 9/11 widows and not only. He said:

“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.”

One of the widows that lost her husband in the plane crash that was allegedly aimed to hit the White House, on Flight 93, Deena Burnett-Bailey, told TMZ that: “The plan for Flight 93 was foiled by heroes. For [Wahlberg] to speculate that his presence on board could have stopped everything is silly and disrespectful.”

After realizing the immense blunder, Mark Wahlberg decided to make amends by issuing a statement on Wednesday in which he apologized for what he said. According to People, Wahlberg stated:

“To suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible. I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive. It was certainly not my intention.”
