It seems that Nicki Minaj managed to switch moods on the cover of Vibe Magazine as the rap diva can be admired while going demure, channeling her inner goddess, donning red hair and a gorgeous embellished white gown and switching to her ‘darker’ side while wearing glossy sleek straight brunette hair and vampire-like black maxi dress which follows her curvaceous body perfectly. Wearing a Marchesa Crown dress, Marianna’s jewelry and more, Nicki Minaj looks fierce and apparently Erik Ian’s camera lens love the 29 year old superstar. Between shoots, Ms. Minaj sat down for an exclusive interview with the magazine, where she discussed her rising career and difficulties of being a woman in the music industry, her fashion style, confidence and more.
Nicki Minaj has made it clear from the get-go that she’s not afraid to speak her mind and experiment with fashion. Her fierce style and high confidence level helped her become an inspiration for women all over the world, but what contributed to the diva’s well defined confidence? The diva tells Vibe that she can’t point out one thing but it was probably an array of things. She said:
“I don’t know, probably a collection of different things. I couldn’t really sum it up into one thing. I just know that I’m having a lot more fun this time.”
As far as getting her way as a woman in an industry dominated by male artists, Nicki Minaj stated that she is focused and knows what she wants. She told Vibe:
“It’s not hard to get your way when it’s your way or the highway. People either follow suit or they’re not around. I don’t really like the sound of that, ‘cause that sounds like a temper tantrum. I’m just very black and white when it comes to my business. There’s really no gray area. I really don’t have a lot of small talk with people I work with. It’s pretty much let’s get the job done. In the beginning, if people didn’t know me they’d probably assume I wasn’t smart or wasn’t business savvy. But once you sit and talk to me, it’s a different story.”
Nicki Minaj has managed to contour her style quite well as her penchant for outrageous designs that are meant to draw plenty of attention is old news, but it seems that although celebs usually try to change for the sake of being in trend, of fitting in ‘the patters’, Nicki is not willing to change her style as she tells Vibe she loves who she is. She says:
“Yeah, I realized more recently that even if it’s for a fashion magazine, I’m not gonna change who I am. When I was doing photo shoots last year, I kept on being told, ‘This is what we want your hair to look like and this is what we want you to look like,’ and it really, really stifled my creativity. So the other day I was talking to a photographer, and he said, ‘You know what, I like your everyday looks so much better than when you do photo shoots for magazines.’ And I was like, ‘So do I, you’re absolutely right.’ I’d been getting more and more frustrated for a while.”
