American model Carolyn Murphy sits down for a chat with The Telegraph UK and dishes on a wide range of topics including her favorite designers, destination and books, her most memorable outfit, gadgets, hobbies, handbag essentials, and she also reveals her beauty secret and guilty pleasure. Renowned for being the face of Estée Lauder cosmetics, Murphy also appeared in campaigns for Tom Ford, Roberto Cavalli, Versace, Harry Winston and Tiffany & Co and was featured in major glossy magazines. The gorgeous supermodel covered April’s 2020 issue of Harper’s Bazaar Turkey.
On her favorite designers, Carolyn says that, “There are too many geniuses. I have my eye on a lace dress and a ribboned cape by Miu Miu, a yellow ‘car’ dress and embellished jacket by Prada, a black ruffled dress by Chanel, a floral dress by Rodarte and a ruffled cream dress by Yohji. I have invested in a couple of couture items, one a black, floor-length strapless YSL gown from 1970. I also have a simple black Galliano slip dress with the sweetest lace edging.”
Speaking about her jewellery, the supermodel told The Telegraph UK that, “Most of my jewellery is vintage. My favourites are a gorgeous clustered strand of pearls by Miriam Haskell and a simple antique blue stone ring from the 1700s. I don’t always wear a watch, but when I do, it’s a vintage platinum Cartier Prada burgundy mary janes from 1995.”

On bags, Carolyn Murphy says that, “My day bag is a small, chocolate-brown, crocodile-skin one by T Anthony – nondescript and feminine. In the evening I carry my nana’s [vintage] black velvet clutch with an emerald-coloured stone clasp.” But what does a famous model carry in her bag? “Handbag essentials Bulgarian Rose Water face spray, Weleda Skin Food and Re-Nutriv concealer duo compact by Estée Lauder,” Murphy told The Telegraph.
What about music? “I don’t listen to the radio or watch television, but I do listen to a lot of 1970s folk rock and old-school country. My favourite album is Bob Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks or Van Morrison’s Moondance,” Carolyn admits.
The model reveals that her hobbies are “riding my horse, painting, sculpture, embroidery, gardening, composting, reading a lot of books and taking random classes” and her favorite books are Wuthering Heights or The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran.
Sharing her beauty secret, Carolyn told The Telegraph UK that, “I can’t live without sleep, alkaline water and chlorophyll. That is the key to good beauty!” She also said that, “I give myself facials at home using homemade ingredients and sitting in the steam bath.” But do supermodels have guilty pleasures? Of course! Murphy’s guilty pleasure is “sipping aged whiskey by a cosy fire. Add friends and family and it’s my perfect evening.”
