After taking time to star in the latest music video of Nicki Minaj featuring Chris Brown, where he’s seen locking lips with the diva, Nas landed the cover of Complex, the magazine’s June/July 2020 issue where the rapper got all relaxed for the camera lens of Kareem Black. The legendary rapper also found time to sit down for a quick chat with the magazine, where he opened up about women, evolving, his upcoming album, which is the rapper’s tenth solo album, and many more, so check out a selection of photographs from his shoot and snippets of his interview below.
The 38-year-old rapper has made a huge name for himself in the industry with his talent, dope rhymes and overall unique style, and he proved he’s still got game by releasing his newest album ‘Life is Good’. As far as his new album goes, Nas tells Complex that “This is different. The way you work, your approach, is different each time. I’m at a cool, mature, easy place.”
‘The Don’ rapper, who after his “Illmatic” record seemed to have toned his style down a little bit, says that it’s important for an artist to express his true feelings and that his mistake was trying to relate to people who didn’t understand him. He told the magazine that:
“I toned it down at times. I started to feel like a nerd when I was a young dude, and that wasn’t what I wanted to get across. I wanted to be relatable. And that was part of my mistake, because I toned it down a lot.”
Nas, who is a father of two, a three year old and a teenager, and who a few years back ended his marriage to singer Kelis, says that his relationship with women has evolved over time as he grew older. He told Complex that:
“I’m taken aback by the beauty of women. There was a time when I only saw big breasts and thick a&%es. Now, I see the beauty in the subtleties. Those are even better than the t&#s and [email protected]$. The aesthetics have changed for me.”
Despite the fact that his marriage to Kelis ended quite quickly, Nas doesn’t reject the idea of marring someone else at one point but says that right now he wouldn’t take this step. He says:
“Not right now. I’m enjoying life and looking at each day like, “This is beautiful.” I’m having a good time. I’m not going to bring anybody in to mess that up. You come around looking like you’re going to mess this good time up, you’re out of here—fast. I’m not sacrificing my happiness for nobody and their drama. No way.”
