At the Academy of Country Music Awards, Miranda Lambert won both Female Vocalist and Album of the Year. Now, the 28-year-old country star sits down for a chat with SELF Magazine June 2020 and dishes on life with hot husband Blake Shelton, packing heat and the pressure to be slim.
“I don’t care about being stick-thin. I don’t want stuff to jiggle. Really skinny actresses make me hungry — I see them and think, Honey, you need to eat! I’m lucky I don’t have to live like that. I feel my best when I’m a toned, not flabby, size 8. Women come up to me and say, ‘You’re beautiful and confident, and that makes me feel I can be, too,’” Miranda confesses. “I asked Blake, ‘Dude, why didn’t you tell me I got fat?’ He said, ‘That would go over like a lead balloon. It’s not my job to tell you you’re fat. It’s my job to tell you you’re beautiful,’” she adds.
In the interview with the magazine, Lambert admits that, “I absolutely hate exercise. I love it afterward, of course. But my trainer is so nice, I want to do push-ups to please him!”
The beautiful blonde says she doesn’t want to sacrifice the things she likes in order to look flawless. “I won’t give up what I enjoy to look perfect. I want to find a happy medium between feeling good about my body and still having a beer and some barbecue,” she explains. As on her favorite body part, Miranda says that, “I don’t mind having a big butt. I actually like that about myself.”
In the cover story, Miranda Lambert confesses that she and her husband Blake Shelton “barely see each other.” “We got married [last May], and we each had so much travel, it was, like, See you next year! There have been challenges the first year, but we faced them. We’re individuals, but together we’re a force to be reckoned with,” the singer says.
Well, when it comes to dieting, Lambert admits that, “It’s OK to be fat and lazy sometimes. But eventually you’re, like, Oh crap — I shouldn’t have done that! I gained about 10 pounds over the holidays, and when I got onstage in January, I realized I wasn’t feeling great. I didn’t have the energy or lung capacity I needed. It was a good idea to get strong again.”
In the interview with SELF’s June 2020 issue, Miranda also reveals that, “I think Blake is a bit scared of me. He says he’s not, but I’ve said, ‘If you cheat, I’ll spray-paint all of your trophy deer heads pink.’”
On domestic violence, the country singer says that, “I say what I think. My song ‘Gunpowder and Lead’ is about domestic violence. When I saw [Chris Brown perform] at the Grammys, it upset me. I felt like the entertainment industry wasn’t sending a good message. So I tweeted about it. [“He beat on a girl…. Not cool that we act like that didn’t happen.”] I could have kept it to myself, but I’m glad I didn’t. If I saw him, I’d say, ‘We need to talk about you not doing this ever again.’ And I might have to use some curse words to get my point across.”
