Kate Upton is the ultimate overnight sensation that managed to become famous for her appearances in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, first in 2020, when she was named Rookie of the Year, and then in 2020, when she was announced as the cover model. Now, the 20-year-old blonde bombshell heats up the July 2020 cover of GQ magazine.
It seems that everything started last April with “the Dougie”, a video filmed at a Clippers game at the Staples Center in L.A., showing Upton dancing to the hit “Teach Me How to Dougie” by the hip hop group Cali Swag District. She tells GQ that she didn’t practice for weeks before her big moment. “No! That was my first Dougie,” she insisted in the interview. And then it was The “Cat Daddy,” a twenty-second video in which Upton shows off her dance moves once again wearing just a bikini.
Kate grew up in a “traditional, all-American family.” Her father was a high school athletic director, while her mother stayed home with the kids. Upton has two tattoos, a horseshoe on her wrist and a small cross on the inside of her finger proving her God-fearing side. “You have to think hard with a tattoo,” she says. “What will I love for the rest of my life?”
Asked about the most exciting thing she’s done since becoming extremely popular, Kate responded immediately sharing a funny story about the GQ shoot. “For the GQ photo shoot, we were on that ride where the seat spins while the actual ride is spinning, and I’m wearing a one-piece. And all of a sudden the whole entire top falls off! I’m holding myself, laughing, turning bright red, but a lot of people are watching, so they kicked us out of the Santa Monica Pier — it was so embarrassing,” she says. “You wouldn’t think that would happen with a one-piece,” she adds.
Earlier this year, the Catholic League criticized the way nuns are portrayed in Peter and Bobby Farrelly’s remake of ‘The Three Stooges’ which shows Kate Upton emerging from a pool in bikini, a nun habit and a rosary. “I can see why the Catholic Church would be upset with me,” Kate told GQ. “But it was just for fun, and I try not to take it more seriously than that.”
Speaking about another controversy that resulted into making headlines about Upton flirting with both Jets quarterbacks, Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez, Kate simply said that, “I’m going to be less emotionally involved this year.”
But how does the American hottie explain the 370,000 Twitter followers, mostly men? “I grew up in Florida riding horses, so for the majority of my life I was either in boots and jeans or a bathing suit,” she tells GQ. “I understand why my male followers like me.” On her career and taking sexy photos, Kate admits that, “It’s like any job. You find your strengths and play them up.”
