A new divorce is taking the world by surprise. Considered one of the most stable couples in showbiz, Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise will soon be walking on separate ways. Despite the fact that all signs pointed out a long, happy partnership it seems that troubles hit paradise and made Katie Holmes file for divorce after five years of marriage.
Fans aren’t the only ones for whom the news came as a major shock. Her soon to be ex husband is just as surprised: “Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy to work this out,” was the statement given by Tom Cruise’s rep.
As for Katie, she cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for divorce and even proceeded to ask ‘primary residential custody’ for their 6 year old daughter Suri. She also asks for a ‘suitable amount’ from Tom for child support.
Despite the need for privacy, tabloids cannot help but make speculations concerning the source of this life-altering change desired by Katie. According to TMZ.com, financial motivations are not the fuel of this unexpected decision. Instead, sources point out to Tom’s religious beliefs and tight links to Scientology.
Despite the obvious need for privacy expressed by the stars, all signs point out to a difficult process that is going to be anything but discreet or even amicable as speculations about Katie’s chances of getting custody are already in discussion.
