It’s not a surprise that singer Jennifer Lopez decided to quit her role as a judge on the uber-popular show American Idol as the diva has revealed prior to the ending of the season that she has not made up her mind about continuing the collaboration that cashed in some big bucks for the singer. And as only a diva could replace another diva on the show, the newest judge on the show is none other than international star Mariah Carey.
Apparently, the pop diva has decided it’s time to get back into the spotlight and her choice to take on some judge duties at American Idol seems to be a perfect one to gain back the public’s attention. According to People, the talented singer has signed a deal for the next season with American Idol on Monday and everyone is thrilled to have her on board.
Fox Entertainment President, Kevin Reilly, told People when it was announced that both Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have quit the show that:
“We do, in fact, have one judge whose deal closed very, very recently. It’s an artist that many contestants have tried to emulate, have tried to have sung the songs, have tried to hit the notes and because it really was concluded only hours ago, our judge couldn’t be with us.”
And to confirm the news, although the new judge was not present, Mr. Riley dialed a number and placed the call on speaker for everyone to her the voice of the mysterious judge: Mariah Carey. According to the publication’s sources the new addition to the American Idol judge table stated that:
“I am so excited to be joining Idol. First of all, I wanted to be there today and I wish I could’ve been there to tell you, but I think you know this all kind of just happened real quickly, so I can’t wait to get started in a couple months.”
Mariah Carey seems to have been taking baby steps to reconquer her fans after having stepped out of the spotlight to tend to her twins, being recently involved in a charity event, C.A.N.V.A.S., where the diva and her hubby revealed two pairs of custom made sneakers they have personally designed for the noble cause. Her next step is the judge table on the next season of American Idol, so tell us: will you be watching Mariah judging on the show?
