Selena Gomez checked into a rehab facility for two weeks in January. The news that she was admitted to Dawn at The Meadows recovery facility in Wickenburg, Arizona, on January 5th, has first surfaced on RadarOnline.com and was later confirmed by the star’s reps. The rehab focuses on treating patients 18 to 26 years old with a diverse number of addictions from emotional trauma to drug and alcohol problems. The reason behind the star’s rehab check-in has not been yet revealed.
Though it was believed that Selena might be suffering from drug additions, the theory was quickly dismissed by the star’s reps who made it clear that it wasn’t the reason why the star decided to take this step: “Selena voluntarily spent time at Meadows but not for substance abuse,” one of her reps told People.com.
The brunette teen sensation, who has had a spotless reputation up until now, shocked her fans in December when she canceled the Australian leg of her tour, motivating her decision by saying she needs more time to focus on herself after many years of hard work: “My fans are so important to me, and I would never want to disappoint them. But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be,” she stated at the time.
A similar statement was made by a source close to the “Spring Breakers” star: “She doesn’t like to say no, but she just reached a point where she needs a minute. She is not having a breakdown,” the source told E! Online. “She wants to be the healthiest that she can be and this means taking a little break. But she is fine. She is OK”.
The succinct statement concerning Selena Gomez’ two week rehab stint has opened the door to numerous speculations, one of which is that the actress might have been affected by her ex boyfriend’s reckless behavior, a claim made by TMZ.com.
It remains to be seen whether the teen sensation, who recently attended the Sundance Film Festival in Park City in Utah, will choose to disclose to her fans more details about her decision to seek help.
