It happened! Kim Kardashian and Kanye West got the Vogue US cover they’ve been trying so hard to get. Kim Kardashian has been trying to be Vogue’s cover girl for a while now and her dreams finally came true. The reality star posed in a gorgeous strapless Lanvin wedding dress alongside her fiance. The decision to put Kimye on the cover, however, took everyone by surprise and editor in chief Anna Wintour had some explaining to do.

The common belief seemed to be that the 64 year old editor in chief simply caved to Kanye’s repeated demands, however, she was quick to dispel those rumors: “You may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue’s cover. He did nothing of the sort. The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn’t true.”

It seems like the couple’s popularity was one of the main reasons why they got the Vogue cover they wanted for such a long time: “There’s barely a strand of the modern media that the Kardashian Wests haven’t been able to master, and for good reason. Kanye is an amazing performer and cultural provocateur, while Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world’s spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that,” Wintour wrote.

The #worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple hashtag does indeed seem to indicate that their notoriety was the main factor that contributed to the unexpected decision. While Kim Kardashian was happy beyond belief with how her first Vogue cover shot by Annie Leibovitz turned out, not everyone shared the sentiment.

One of the most celebs who showed her discontent with the controversial decision was Sarah Michelle Gellar who wrote: ‘Well……I guess I’m canceling my Vogue subscription. Who is with me???’ on her Twitter page.
