“Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” has been off the air since 2020, but most celebrities managed to get in and out of rehab without a reality TV crew following their every move. Some have even kept the source of their troubles secret, while still getting the help their needed.
Check out a few celebrities who have been to rehab at least once. From multiple offenders like Lindsay Lohan to celebrities who developed their issue later in life, like Demi Moore, here are some of the biggest celebrity rehab stories.
Lindsay Lohan
In 2020, Lohan checked into rehab for the sixth time. Her substance abuse issues have also landed her in a rehabilitation facility three times in 2020 and twice in 2020.
This time around, Lindsay seems to be more in control of her life. After completing her stint, she went on to film the OWN docu-series “Lindsay” about her present struggles, which also included a miscarriage.
Kelly Osbourne
Coming from a family with multiple issues (alcohol and drugs for Ozzie, eating disorders for Sharon and pain killers for Jack), Kelly Osbourne still managed to top other celebrities who have been to rehab. The purple-haired TV personality was also institutionalized more than once! “I’ve been to rehab seven times and to two mental institutions. My mum even had me put in a padded cell once to scare me, but like a brat I just sat it out until she said, ‘Well, that’s not going to work’. But what I’ve learned is that no amount of therapy or medication is going to work unless you want it to. Until you want to be a good person, you will never be one,” she told Cosmopolitan UK.
Drew Barrymore
After she started drinking when she was 9 and went on to cocaine by the time she was 12, Drew Barrymore was certainly in great danger as a teen. She had been through two rehab stints by the time she was 13, but unlike other young celebrities, Barrymore managed to escape the downward spiral.
Kesha
Recently joining the list of celebrities who have been to rehab, Kesha spent two months in rehab for bulimia nervosa and when she was out, she dropped the dollar sign from her name. Her mother has claimed that the singer has been struggling with eating disorders ever since she was signed by RCA Records.
Demi Lovato
At the age of 20, Demi Lovato entered rehab for bulimia, self-injury, and substance abuse, before being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. After spending almost three months in rehab, Lovato managed to return home and focus on her career, from new albums to judging on “The X Factor” and acting.
Eva Mendes
Among celebrities who have been to rehab, few have managed to completely conceal the reason why they needed help. “I’m proud of people who have the determination and the fearlessness to actually go and face their demons and get better. This is a life or death situation. I’m not a spokesperson for this, but it’s just that I want to support people for their decisions when they do go in and get help,” she told Interview magazine.
Kirsten Dunst
In 2020, Kirsten Dunst went to the same rehab facility, the Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in Utah, as Lindsay Lohan and Eva Mendes. The 25 year old only needed to be there once to get over her heavy partying.
Nicole Richie
One of the celebrities who have been to rehab for truly dangerous substances, Nicole Richie was arrested in 2020 for heroin possession and soon after entered rehab. After completing her treatment, she explained that nobody was to blame for her issues but herself. “I created it and manifested it, and I got myself through it with the help of a lot of great people,” she told the UK edition of InStyle.
Demi Moore
Taking the break up of her marriage very hard, Demi Moore needed professional help in 2020. She also chose the Cirque Lodge rehab facility, where she faced her anorexia and prescription medication addiction.
Selena Gomez
One of the latest celebrities who have been to rehab, Selena Gomez spent time in rehab, an addiction and trauma facility for young people. Her rep denied any substance abuse, but the singer and actress hasn’t opened up about her experience.
