The TV show that pairs your fav celebs with professional dancers showed clips that reveal the difficulties encountered by participants while trying to get their choreography straight and put on display their dancing routines perfectly, but according to Ms. Menonos, until you try it you won’t be able to understand the effort and pain she suffered, as she tells the magazine that:
“No one will ever understand the pain I went through to stay in the running, but it was worth it. To learn how to dance and have shared this experience with all my fans and loved ones was truly magical. I didn’t want my time on the show to end, but I’m thrilled and honored that I made it as far as I did.”
She’s no stranger to pain as she’s known for her enthusiasm with WWE, where she made several appearances in the ring, but it seems that the dancing show she enrolled in landed her more injuries than wrestling as she confesses to Shape that:
“Don’t get me started on all of my injuries. First I broke two ribs, next I had three stress fractures on my left foot and two in my right, then I had some sort of tendon thing I don’t understand, and I think I may have broken something in my hand. It was so bad, Derek [Hough, her partner on the show] had to give me piggyback rides everywhere.”
She might seem soft but she’s a ‘tough cookie’ and she attributes this characteristic to her heritage. Maria states that she picked up on discipline after observing her father’s will power to stay off sugar after learning he’s suffering from diabetes, almost 40 years ago. She tells the magazine that:
“My dad’s very disciplined. More than 40 years ago, he was diagnosed with diabetes and told not to eat sugar. He never touched it again! He took his disease seriously, which is why he’s so robust today.”
