These days, easy homemade mask recipes are abundant and can be easily customized depending on individual needs. Inexpensive, easy to use and easily customizable, face masks can be an important part of a weekly pampering ritual. To get maximum benefit from your face masks, it’s important to keep in mind both your skin type and the issues you’re trying to tackle and keep a few things in mind.
The face masks should be applied on a clean face, avoiding the eye area and testing the mixture on a less visible part of the face. While homemade face mask recipes aren’t typically irritating, it’s always best to test first to be sure. The frequency of use depends on the type of mask you’re using, however, most specialists recommend using homemade masks no more than three times a week. Here are a few homemade mask ideas you might want to try:
Cinnamon and Honey Face Mask for Acne
This is one of the easiest homemade face mask recipes for acne since it only features two ingredients: honey and cinnamon, both of which have powerful antibacterial properties. For this face mask, you’ll only need three teaspoons of honey and half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Mix these ingredients well and apply it on your face using gentle motions. If you have long hair, you might want to consider tying your hair back before application to make sure you won’t risk getting honey on your hair as well. Leave the mixture on for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse off with lukewarm water.
Brightening Face Mask for Dry Skin
This face mask can be used twice a week and consists of 2 tablespoons of sour cream, 2 tablespoons of honey and a tablespoon of lime juice. If you don’t have lime juice on hand, you can also substitute it with apple cider vinegar. Combine these ingredients together and apply the mixture to your face leaving it on for about 20 minutes and rinsing off with tepid water afterwards, making sure to apply moisturizer when you’re done.
Peach, Egg White and Yogurt Face Mask
This simple face mask recipe is recommended for those who have combination skin, but is also gentle enough to be used by those who have sensitive skin. Mix a ripe peach, an egg white and a tablespoon of yogurt together and then apply the mixture on clean skin using gentle massage motions, leaving it to act for 15 minutes before rinsing off.
Cooling Cucumber and Aloe Vera Face Mask
This recipe works particularly well for soothing sunburned skin. Blend together a small peeled cucumber with 1/2 cup of aloe vera gel and a crushed aspirin until you get a thick paste. Put the mixture in the fridge for about 15 minutes before applying it on the face. Keep the mixture on for 30 minutes then rinse off using cool water.
Rejuvenating Papaya Face Mask
Papaya is natural source of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), which makes it a perfect ingredient for those who are trying to slow down the aging process. For this face mask you’ll need half a papaya (with the skin and seeds removed), a tablespoon of oats, a tablespoon of olive oil and two tablespoons of lemon juice. Blend these ingredients together and apply it to the face and neck area for 10 minutes before rinsing off.
