The Dolce & Gabbana Sicilian Jewels makeup collection isn’t the typical holiday makeup line. Most makeup lines revolve around red and gold tones with a few glittery nail polishes thrown in, but not the new Dolce & Gabbana winter 2020 collection. The new colors of the line were inspired by precious gemstones: topaz, amethyst, emerald and ruby.
According to Stefano Gabbana, jewelry has always been a source of inspiration for the brand for many reasons: “I love jewels; they are a symbol of power and passion. I love how they reflect the light: that’s why they have always been part of our collections since the very beginning. We adorn with gems our accessories, our corsetry, everything, like in our latest winter collection, which is the ultimate expression of what jewellery means for us.”
The thing that makes the new Dolce & Gabbana Sicilian Jewels collection unusual is the fact that it brings plenty of edgy lipstick tones. It might not take a lot of courage to rock emerald nails, but green lipstick is another matter altogether. Makeup artist Pat McGrath, Dolce & Gabbana’s creative adviser makes a surprising statement. Such a choice can actually be versatile. We bet you didn’t think about it that way! “For me, I basically keep it on the center of a red mouth, [blending it a bit to] make it more brown and do the whole ombré thing. And, I would definitely wear it on my eyes. I do love lipstick on my eyes — I love the cream color and I think it’s a very nice, rich tone. That, on your eyes, is going to be incredible, ” she stated.
Still don’t think the idea is something you’d be tempted to try? Perhaps additional explanations as to what the thought process behind the new line was will do the trick: “Matching your lipstick to your nail lacquer is a hot make up trend. We chose four new shades that showcase the theatrical and playful side of looking good: they are so shiny and special that they’ll be a perfect complement to any Christmas or New Year outfit. They can be worn in a young, ironic interpretation or with a more grown-up, sophisticated vibe. Just like a piece of jewellery.”
Feeling bold enough to invest in the new offerings? Then, you should know that these makeup products arrive at Harrods starting with November 1st. The nail polishes will retail for £18 a piece while the lipsticks for £27. US shoppers will be able to purchase these from Saks Fifth Avenue for $35 a piece.
