Some nail trends are transitioning from summer to fall, but the latest collections have also introduced a few new spins on classic looks. Discover the biggest nail trends for Fall 2020 and choose the manicure that works with your style best.
From two types of nude nails to metallics and nail art on a single finger, these are the biggest trends that you should try in order to keep your manicure up to date for the Fall/Winter 2020-2020 season.
Nude Nails
If you like to keep your nails subtle, there are two big trends when it comes to nude nails for fall. The sheer nude look was seen on the runway for the Diane von Furstenberg, Rodarte, and Helmut Lang.. If you’d rather prefer a more opaque nude, Alexander Wang, Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, and Kate Spade proved how stylish this look is for fall.
Darker Reds
When you’re looking for the perfect red nails of the fall, go darker. Deeper reds, from wine tones to saturated mahoganies are among the most important nail trends for Fall 2020. The look was featured by brands from Burberry and Kenneth Cole to Rebecca Minkoff and Nicole Miller. If you think that’s too dark for all your nails, you can easily pair deep reds with other colors, even with a nude part on the same nail, and still get a trendy look.
Geometric Lines
Either perfectly parallel to your cuticles or diagonal, strong geometric lines are definitely a big part of the nail repertoire featured during Fall 2020 Fashion Week in New York, London, Paris and Milan. Diagonal lines don’t even have to be symmetrical on every nail, and mixing this trend with metallics, like Butter London did for the Lela Rose runway show, is a great tip for an even more dramatic look.
Bright White
Karen Walker and Zero + Maria Cornejo showed off bright white nails on the runway, but if you don’t like the immaculate look, you can still use one of the coolest nail trends for Fall 2020. Nellie Partow and A Detacher went for off white, so just choose the perfect shade of white based on how much you want your manicure to stand out.
Multi Colored Nails
Cynthia Rowley proved that rainbow nails can look as sophisticated as any other manicure. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that means you can pile on 7 shades on each nail. Instead, stick to a maximum of two shades per nail and pick complementary tones before moving on to the next nail and color combination.
Asymmetrical Nails
Using negative space on nails is definitely one of the edgier nail trends for Fall 2020. Opening Ceremony, Vaccarello and Zimmerman played with different proportions on each nail, some being painted almost all the way except for the tip, while others, on the same hand, had just the tip colored. Don’t be afraid to make each nail different, as long as you keep the lines at the same angle.
Gunmetal Gray
Try darker grays, with or without the addition of a touch of sparkle. Vera Wang, Carmen Marc Valvo, and DKNY showed plenty of gunmetal gray nails with their latest collections, with a touch of shine.
Marbling
Since the nail trends for Fall 2020 are more varied than usual, take a risk and tried the cool marbling effect used for the Creatures of the Wind runway show. Create your own psychedelic patterns with a metallic shade and a pastel.
Gold Nails
Naeem Khan, Proenza Schouler, and Marra Hoffman really took gold nails to a whole new level this season, with every combination from full on gold to golden halfmoons or tips. Go for opaque gold for a really dramatic and stylish look.
Sparkling Halfmoons
Add a touch of sparkle to your nails by focusing on the halfmoon. Badgley Mischka opted for gunmetal with sparkling halfmoon, while Rolando took a less contrasting approach, but just as charming and effective in creating a unique look.
Nail Art on Your Ring Finger
If you’re not ready for nail art on every single nail, try one of the more subtle nail trends for Fall 2020 and keep the art limited to your ring finger. Jenny Packham, Degen, and Erin Fetherston all featured nail art on just the ring finger during their Fall Fashion Week shows.
