Born in Grenoble, France, and now working in New York City, Catherine Malandrino has successfully merged two different perspectives of fashion.
Since starting her own label, Catherine Malandrino has woven together the energy of Manhattan with the romance and elegance of Paris.
Fashion designer Catherine Malandrino currently designs two collections: her contemporary Catherine Malandrino line and her runway line Malandrino which features shoes and accessories including jewelry, handbags, and belts.
Her latest surrealist-themed collection, ‘Over the Rainbow’, paid direct homage to surreal fashion’s first lady, Elsa Schiaparelli.
Many of her shoes and accessories talk in the same surrealist manner of her, just like that pair of shoes made of fuchsia velvet, with an ambitious arch built on space and clarity and steel. These architectural velvet wedges, available in a variety of materials and colors, are estimated at $500.
Many times, accessories became metaphors for a designer’s collection, and Catherine Malandrino’s do exactly the same thing. Catherine Maladrino shoes express power, sexuality and use different visions. Just remember those shoes presented at one of her shows, ‘Down To Earth’ – flag-print ballet flats, which Malandrino is making in collaboration with Repetto, were eye-catching, and the same effect had other shoe designs, crocheted designs with wooden heels.
We can’t help but love the Claudel shoes ($550), made of nappa lamb leather with metallic leather laser cut-out lace effect. The Camus sandals, also made also for the 2020 Spring/Summer collection, feature nappa lamb leather with chain detail on strap and leather lace detail on heel ($495).
The Pascal shoes are also made of nappa lamb leather and it’s draped with nude silk fish net ($450). Catherine Malandrino’s desings have been featured on Sex and the City and worn by celebrities including Sarah Jessica Parker, Halle Berry, and Madonna. In 2020 she was a guest judge on Bravo TV’s Project Runway. Her shoes complete her vision and translate her on own style in fashion. After working at Emanuel Ungaro and Et Vous in Paris, it was time for Catherine Malandrino to became the name on everyone’s lips.
