May 14, 2020, Venice, Italy. A sumptuous city and a spectacular sunset were the stage of Karl Lagerfeld‘s new collection, Chanel Cruise 2020 collection. It was the legendary Grand Hotel Excelsior Venice Lido Resort that hosted this event, and everyone was there.
Why Italy? Well, this city was a huge source of inspiration for Coco Chanel, becoming a timeless biographical seal for many Chanel collections.
The models were dressed into Peggy Guggenheim inspired clothes, and they walked on a boardwalk just like on the catwalk.
Inguna Butane and Snejana Onopka, Heidi Mount, Liu Wen, Denisa Dvorakova and Siri Tollerod were just a few models hired for this show.
The show had to wait 2 hours before it started just to make it in time with a gorgeous sunset. In this theatrical set, models begun to appear, wearing Marchesa Casati-inspired wigs and makeup, the opening sailor girl-inspired cream and navy knits and a finale of metallic lace cocktail dresses. Karl Lagerfeld designed printed chiffon dresses, boucle jackets, nautical stripes, wealthy reds, and fringed detailing.
It’s easy to understand now the very romantic local of Venice, city that inspires artists from different areas. Inspired by nautical adventures and the classic ideal of feminism and beauty, Karl Lagerfeld created true masterpieces for the Chanel Cruise 2020 collection.
