Major celebrities from the worlds of fashion, film and music showed up in style at the Met Ball, but this year a few couples made a really big impression on the red carpet at the 2020 Costume Institute Gala in New York City on Monday, May 5.
The theme of this year’s event was “Charles James: Beyond Fashion”, as the exhibit was dedicated to British-born James, considered “America’s First Couturier.” See the best dressed couples at the MET Gala 2020 and find out which designer they chose for the big night.
Beyoncé and Jay Z
Wearing Givenchy Couture, the power couple impressed on the red carpet at the Costume Institute Gala.
Beyoncé opted for a crystal-studded black custom gown created by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, while Jay Z wore a white jacket, along with black tux pants. Their combined looks made for one of the best dressed couples at the MET Gala 2020.
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian
Kim’s Givency outfit from last year wasn’t met with a very positive reaction, so the reality TV star changed designers and went with Lanvin for the 2020 Met Ball. Her blue and black silk gown had a dangerously high slit that ever allowed for a wardrobe malfunction (the panties do match the dress!) while Kanye looked great in his Lanvin tux with black wool silk tails.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard
One of the only best dressed couples at the MET Gala 2020 who didn’t bother to match outfits too much, Johnny Depp went for a Ralph Lauren Purple Label black tuxedo tailcoat with a white vest, complete with black cane. Amber Hearst sparkled in a Giambattista Valli silk dress with delicate embroidery.
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds
While Blake Lively opted for a nude dress covered in sequins, Ryan Reynolds chose a blue velvet tux with a bow tie for the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Both chose Gucci and had a few affectionate moments on the red carpet.
Charlize Theron and Sean Penn
Rocking Dior Couture, Charlize Theron was accompanied to the event by Sean Penn and they definitely ended up as one of the best dressed couples at the MET Gala 2020. While the actor kept things simple with a traditional tux with a white shirt, Theron opted for a black and white dress with a men’s tuxedo jacket.
Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield
The young couple from “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” went for more youthful interpretations of the Met Ball dress code. Emma Stone chose a Thakoon outfit in color-blocked pink and magenta, while Andrew Garfield made a bold choice with a a silver Band of Outsiders jacket.
Victoria and David Beckham
Taking the white tie dress code literally helped the Beckhams instantly become one of the best dressed couples at the MET Gala 2020. Victoria’s choice was safe, a floor-length white dress from her own Pre-Fall 2020 collection. David opted for a white Ralph Lauren suit with a black bow tie.
Jessica Alba and Cash Warren
Actress Jessica Alba posed with with designer Diane von Fürstenberg before the event, but showed up on the red carpet with her hubby, Cash Warren. Her DvF golden gown was accessories with Brian Atwood shoes, but the most stylish accessory was Alba’s own husband in a classic black tux with a shiny ivory bow tie.
Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady
Definitely one of the best dressed couples at the MET Gala 2020, Gisele and Tom Brady went for black looks. The supermodel wore a Balenciaga black silk gown and black satin sandals, while the quarterback chose a Tom Ford tux with a black silk bowtie.
Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka
One of the most striking couples on the red carpet, Neil Patrick Harris and his husband opted for a high-impact look in Thom Browne tuxedos. The crop top tuxes ended up having a bit of a matador vibe and the print matching on Burtka is definitely daring, but if there’s one place where you can pull off such a look, it’s the Costume Institute Gala.
John Legend and Chrissy Teigen
Wearing a stunning one of a kind Ralph Lauren gown and a Ralph Lauren purple label black tuxedo, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend ended up as one of the best dressed couples at the MET Gala 2020, and the model’s Swarovski-covered dress was a clear win.
