Many ill fitting trends start with street style, but many more are started by celebrities who either ignore a stylist’s advice or simply talk to the wrong stylist. The results is often a bad trend, either or the red carpet or off.

From Matthew McConaughey’s fanny packs to linebacker shoulder pads, here are the trends that you shouldn’t let celebs convince you into wearing.
Fanny Packs
Matthew McConaughey’s laid back style has found a place for one of the least fashionable accessories ever created.
“I’m not afraid of the fanny pack. You gotta kinda put it on the side to make it look a little not as nerdy, but still, practicality wins out. I got so much gear in here that I don’t want in my pockets,” he told CSN Houston. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was also a fan of the fanny pack once, and he wasn’t afraid to prove it.
Extreme Cutouts
While dresses with cutouts continue to be a popular trend, some stars are taking it to the extreme, turning it into one of the worst celebrity fashion trends. Some of the most obvious examples of going too far include Jaimie Alexander’s dress worn at the “Thor: The Dark World” premiere, and Gwyneth Paltrow’s “Iron Man 3” premiere gown.

Taking Floral Prints to the Extreme
Floral prints are still going strong on the runways, but there is a wrong way to wear them. Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala outfit may have been criticised for the wrong reasons, but the Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci gown would make anyone look like a couch. Lena Dunham’s floral gown from the 2020 Emmy Awards similarly proves that you can go wrong with florals.
Exposed Leg All the Way
After Angelina Jolie rocked the super high slit at the 2020 Academy Awards, Jennifer Lopez tried to rock the look too at the 2020 Grammy Awards. The exposed leg is definitely one of the worst celebrity fashion trends, and one you shouldn’t attempt even if you have gorgeous and toned legs.
Huge Shoulder Pads
Rihanna is one of the biggest offenders when it comes to huge shoulder pads, but many other celebrities have fallen victims to this retro trends, including Kim Kardashian, Victoria Beckham and Olivia Wilde. While they can certainly create dramatic looks, most of those look seem to belong on the football field.
Drop Crotch Pants
Equally unflattering on Justin Bieber and Rihanna, drop crotch pants are one of the worst celebrity fashion trends and they’re part of ‘90s influences, just like the midriff exposing crop top that’s also showed up on the red carpet. Parachute pants may be unflattering, but the drop crotch takes the ugly to a whole new level, and it’s a trend you should stay far away from.

Lace Overkill
A gorgeous lace gown is usually a surefire winner, but some celebrities forget about “less is more” and really take it into unexpected places. Wearing all over lace easily turns into an outfit more fit for a budoir, and Amanda Peet’s Emmys 2020 dress is one of the worst offenders. Even worse, lace pants like Kristin Stewart’s threaten to kill the trend altogether.
Clogs
They may be a boho chic staple, but at the same time clogs are one of the worst celebrity fashion trends. The Olsen twins embraced them, along with many other celebrities, but their biggest downside is not necessarily the way they look, but the way they force you to walk. When clogs are involved, your walk loses every bit of sexiness.
Lumpy Dresses
Oversized dresses rarely do anyone any favors, and truly lumpy creations that resemble a sack more than fashion are also one of the most glaring celebrity fashion faux pas. They’re particularly bad when they’re hiding the beautiful figure of someone like Marion Cotillard and Victoria Beckham.
Ponchos
Worn by everyone from Jessica Simpson to Kim Kardashian, ponchos and poncho-inspired capes are definitely one of the worst celebrity fashion trends. Even when paired with bold prints, ponchos usually end up looking like snuggies.
