The tough girl allure seemed the dominant trend in many of the collections presented in the last days at NYFW. While androgyny was a keyword for many collections spotted in the first half of the NYFW fall 2020, some designers took the concept to a whole new level using new sources of inspiration and eclectic motifs that created a unique vision. Using concepts from a long gone era, the not so distant past when the brands first emerged or even looking at the future, these labels managed to bring a thought provoking set of options that quickly became memorable:
NYFW Fall 2020: Tory Burch Fall 2020 Collection
The Tory Burch fall 2020 collection had an interesting source of inspiration: armor collected by her parents and grandparents. With that idea in mind, the designer created her own interpretation of an urban warrior.
Among the most attention grabbing elements spotted in the new line were fab jeweled wool tunics, medieval tapestry inspired dresses and skirts, lovely lace up pumps, ornate gold belts that perfectly reflected the theme. The designer opted for a relatively subdued color palette of navy, oxblood and gray, however, the metallic tones and the multitude of contrasting textures ensured the new looks wouldn’t go by unnoticed. NYFW Fall 2020: Diesel Black Gold Fall 2020 Collection
The Diesel Black Gold fall 2020 collection wasn’t inspired by the glorious past. Instead, the designer thought about the future. Designer Andreas Melbostad thought about the future and confessed it was always a dream of his to do a ”sort of astronaut-futuristic collection.” As a result he focused on well defined proportions, leather, metallic accents, exposed zippers, conspicuous hardware elements, sharp silhouettes and a well defined chromatic choice that revolved mostly around black, gunmetal, silver, charcoal and white. NYFW Fall 2020: J.Crew Fall 2020 Collection
The J.Crew fall 2020 collection took inspiration from the Berlin cabarets from the ’20s and ’30s. What made these particular decades so fascinating? Designer Tom Mora explained: “It was a really prosperous time for Germany, in terms of art, music, poetry.” The line brought a mixture of masculine and feminine pieces that carried the label’s distinct signature. Sportswear influences and rich embellishments were among the most distinguishable elements from the new line. See the full J.Crew fall 2020 collection!
NYFW Fall 2020: Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2020 Collection
The Marc by Marc Jacobs fall 2020 collection was inspired by the label’s core identity at the very beginning, back when it was first launched, 13 years ago. According to designer Luella Bartley, the line was designed for the “tough, cool girl,” so these were the elements that the new line was based on. The line brought a variety of street style inspired pieces with an edgy and masculine flair, though feminine accents such as oversized bows or skirts with pleats were also included in the line. NYFW Fall 2020: Vera Wang Fall 2020 Collection
The Vera Wang fall 2020 collection had a strong grunge allure that was evident from the very beginning. One of the most easily memorable looks from the new line was the second one the designer sent on the runway which had the message ‘You Bug Me’ printed on a black T-shirt and which perfectly reflected the tomboyish flair adopted by the designer for the new line. Still, even though the masculine accents were well defined, the designer also included more romantic pieces with a more sensual allure. View more from the Vera Wang fall 2020 collection!
