New York Fashion Week spring 2020 has brought a myriad of interesting influences into the spotlight, however it seems like minimalism is still a concept that carries a lot of weight, an idea that was especially evident in the last two days of the NYFW spring 2020 edition, though minimalist influences were present in varying degrees in several lines. Not surprisingly, however, the collections that best reflected the concepts came from labels for which the idea is in the their DNA. Here are some of the most notable examples:
NYFW Spring 2020: Reed Krakoff Collection
The Reed Krakoff spring 2020 collection was awaited with a lot of interest. As you may know, Reed Krakoff announced his departure from Coach a while back to focus on his own label more, so everyone was curious what the future of the label will look like.
Well, so far the designer has focused on “super-fluid and feminine” lightweight dresses with a few sporty accents and an easily distinguishable minimalist vibe. NYFW Spring 2020: Proenza Schouler Collection
“Understated domesticity” and “serene and polished” where the concepts designers Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough focused on for the spring 2020 Proenza Schouler line. Though these ideas seem a little…cryptic, the sources of inspiration used, “mid-century furniture designers of the West Coast” and “traditional Moroccan weavings” help paint a clearer picture. NYFW Spring 2020: Victoria Beckham Collection
For spring 2020, Victoria Beckham embraced masculine and feminine accents, in the minimalist manner she’s got us accustomed to. Her new line revolved around shift dresses, A-line tunics, cropped pants and masculine inspired shorts. Though she often went for monochrome looks, she occasionally changed things up with the help of abstract patterns and accent tones like fuchsia or brick reed. NYFW Spring 2020: Calvin Klein Collection
Designer Francisco Costa not only showed his spring 2020 collection in New York, but also used it as inspiration for his new line. Naturally, the fashion house’s minimalist roots were once again reflected in a series of chic modern alternatives. Among the key pieces of the new line were chic handwoven sundresses, sexy yet classy skirts, modern coats. Even though the new line brought many black, white and gray pieces, pink, mint and emerald green tones brought an interesting contrast to the new alternatives. NYFW Spring 2020: Ralph Lauren Collection
For Ralph Lauren, minimalism doesn’t mean focusing only on subdued tones or avoiding prints altogether. On the contrary, he focused extensively on vibrant red, lime,orange, bright green, cobalt, and yellow to add a playful vibe to his new offerings and on graphic motifs for his signature menswear-inspired looks. “My spring 2020 collection celebrates a simple purity of clean lines and structure with a not to the bold spirit and playfulness of swinging London in the late ’60s,” he said in a statement.
