Givenchy at Paris Fashion Week Fall 2020

Givenchy at Paris Fashion Week Fall 2020

Just one more day until Givenchy at Paris Fashion Week! “You must cherish your clothes,” said Hubert de Givenchy who also believed that “dressing a woman is to make her more beautiful.” Renowned for its ladylike and timeless aesthetic, the house of Givenchy received a whole new twist under the direction of the aristocratic designer’s successors, John Galliano and Alexander McQueen. After a short period of decline, the famous brand started to rise again when Riccardo Tisci was named creative director in 2020.

“But I learned that M. Givenchy and I actually share many of the same codes: He was all about severity, aristocracy, irony, and couture craftsmanship, too,” Tisci told Vogue. Nevertheless, the Italian designer brought some new elements to the legendary brand. For the Givenchy spring 2020 collection, Tisci brought some really stunning pieces that featured couture-inspired details. There were chiffon sequins, lasered leather cutouts, and beautifully tailored silhouettes.

For the Givenchy fall 2020 collection, Riccardo Tisci showcased an array of looks with an equestrian flare. There was an outstanding masculine-feminine combination that drew everyone’s attention. Well, for the house’s spring 2020 collection the designer went back to the Givenchy heritage. “I went back to the roots of the house,” Tisci explained, “and worked on the sixties of Hubert [de Givenchy] – which was the best period for me.”

So, yes, Givenchy’s line for spring 2020 featured alongside black and gray a light color palette that included baby blue and pale beige. Tisci also added some elements inspired by “the geometry and the lightness of the shapes in wood and the metal” coming from the furniture designs of the enigmatic creative force Carlo Mollino. Well, we now wait to see what Riccardo Tisci has created for Givenchy’s fall 2020 collection that will be showcased at Paris Fashion Week on March 3. Check back for updates!
