Hair Cutting Techniques

Hair stylists are all well trained in cutting hair and they usually use professional language, a language that most of us can’t understand. Believe it or not, there are many ways a hair can be cut in order to obtain different results. Just so you can get a better understanding on how your hair will be cut, we will present a few cutting techniques used by hairdressers.

Slide cutting

It’s a technique used to soften a person’s facial features. It creates texture and eliminates some of the hair’s weight. It is a great cutting technique especially for curly hair because it will define the curls. People with fine hair should avoid getting this type of haircut.

Razor cutting

It is a technique used to relieve some of the weight on thick hair. It adds bounciness to curls and movement throughout the hair. Razor cutting will add softness to the facial features.

Hair Cutting Techniques

Layering

It is one of the most common hair cutting techniques. Layers reduce the weight of thick hair and add volume and texture to fine hair. Layers work great on thick or fine hair, adding movement and versatility to the hairstyle.

Point cutting

Point cutting is mostly used to soften the bluntness of a haircut. This is a cut appropriate for all types of hair, from fine to thick hair.

Graduation

It is a technique through which the hair is cut progressively shorter towards the back. It is mostly used in cutting inverted bob hairstyles. This cut works really well on medium thick hair. Thick hair should avoid getting this cut because it creates a lot of hair volume

Slicing

This is a great way to get well defined tresses. This technique uses the scissors to slide through the hair, creating a feathered finish. The feathered finish offers texture and well defined tresses. It’s a great cutting technique for women with not too fine nor too thick hair.
