How to Do Gothic Makeup

Gothic makeup is bold and heavy, therefore it is important to apply it on a well-cleaned and moisturized face. Usually gothic makeup means a pale skin that creates a great contrast for the darker colors. This makeup style is not only about black eyes. As you can see on girls wearing gothic makeup, this style favors many other colors like plum, dark red, turquoise, emerald, purple or even fuchsia. A well done gothic makeup can be beautiful if you enhance those features that are the nicest on your face. There are many goth styles to choose from, but if you are a beginner, start with a classic goth look. Good results can be achieved only by experimentation, so dare to try different styles and colors when you have some free time.

How to Do Gothic Makeup

As a first step, apply a light foundation and translucent powder or even a little white powder to create a more dramatic gothic look. Blend it well around your neck to avoid lines. A good tip is to gently apply some powder over the eyes, this way the makeup will not wear off.

Eyes are the most important features of a gothic makeup, they are the main highlight. There are so many styles and colors to play with, that makeup really becomes fun. Apply a black, dark drown, deep blue, dark green, purple or burgundy eyeshadow on your eyelids. Try to create rings around your eyes by using deep blue or glittery purple eyeshadows that will convey to you a more haunted look. Use the same shade on both of your eyelids and make the inner corner of the eye is a bit lighter.

When you apply the eyeshadow on the lower eyelid, continue blending it towards the upper eyelid. Black liquid eyeliner is a must for a perfect goth inspired makeup. Draw a thick line carefully on your eyelids to make your eyes stand out. If you use an eyeliner pencil on your eyes, you can apply it on your lips or a lip liner. Gothic makeup is all about a dramatic look, so don’t forget to get perfectly contoured, neat eyebrows as well. You can darken them a little with black eyebrow pencil, then don’t forget to apply black mascara on the upper and lower eyelashes as well.

For a perfect gothic look, lips have to be highly emphatic and elaborate as well. Draw carefully the outline of the lips with a dark tone lip liner. With dark colored lips, it is very important to be very precise when drawing the lines, otherwise contours will only emphasize the irregularities of the lip line. Using a brush, finish off your stunning gothic makeup by filling in your lips with deep purple, burgundy or dark red lipstick.
