What do we really mean by exfoliate? Exfoliation in a plain language is removal of dead skin form the top layer of the skin or the epidermis. How do we exfoliate? Most of the exfoliation is done through cosmetic process. Of course we now understand that exfoliation will help us in getting smooth skin and also help us reduce acne and pimple like problems. So basically if you want good skin, you have to also get rid of some of them!
The skin in its natural way exfoliates or sheds itself in may be a month and we have a new skin. However some of it remains back and leaves our skin look dull and rough and dry and avoids oil release from the pores. Therefore, the need arises for removing these dead skin by cosmetic means.
How To Exfoliate Skin:
Exfoliation on a regular basis will help clean the pores and the skin and also increase blood circulation. This will make skin look glowing and fresh from within. So once we exfoliate regularly it also keeps our skin help to absorb moisturizer and other skin care products effectively.

This exfoliation can be done by way of scrubs, skin care products, home-made products or by going to a parlor to shed the skin. Some of the natural ways of exfoliating skin at home can be by using the following. Apply all these on the face just raw or by mixing with other home products like besan, lemon juice, wheat flour etc. and massage well in circular motion:
1. Honey:
Unprocessed and raw honey is an anti-septic, contain anti-fungal properties and also is a very good anti-oxidant. Massaging your skin with honey regularly provides repair to the skin and also provides moisturize to it thus not making it look dry. It has hydrating qualities and thus helps in rejuvenation of skin.
2. Baking Soda:
Well we all do have a box of baking soda in our kitchen itineraries and may not really be of much in use. Here is a way of how you can make the most of it. Baking soda or sodium bicarbonate is present in lot of our skin care products that we use otherwise. Therefore adding a tea spoon or two of soda to your face pack or cleanser can also help you in exfoliation of skin thus making it clean and clear and saving you pocket pinch at expensive spas!
3. Yogurt:
Apart from providing a rich source of taste in our kitchen, yogurt is also rich in hydroxy acid. All our skin care treatment products will also contain this. Yogurt is a natural cleanser and skin smoothener. It is a very good exfoliator and can be used plain as a facial not only on the face but also on the entire body. Leave it thereafter for 10 to 15 minutes and you will find your body light, moisturized and cleansed. It can be applied with mixing few drops of lemon juice. Yogurt is also very good moisturized and cleanser for hair.
4. Lemon Juice:
Lemon juice is a rich source of vitamin C. It is a citrus fruit rich in alpha hydroxy acid and is also an ingredient in most of the skin care products. It also penetrates into the skin and helps remove the dead skin from the epidermis and cleanses and soothes the skin. The lemon juice is also mixed with honey or yogurt and can be applied as a face mask.
