How to Keep Your Tan Longer

Chilly fall weather is starting to set in while the warm summer months are becoming a far memory. As depressing as it is to think of the winter weather that is just around the corner, not all traces of your summer glory need to be lost with the cold weather. Here are some tips about how to make your summer tan last longer.

1. Moisturize

Let’s face it, the best way to maintain your summer tan is to moisturize, moisturize and moisturize! Keeping your skin hydrated prevents your tan from peeling and it makes it last longer. It may seem very simple, but there’s no better way to keep that lovely tan than moisturizing your skin morning and night. Especially when the weather is starting to get colder you should apply moisturizer at least twice a day, from head to toe.

2. Exfoliate

Exfoliating is just as important as moisturizing and it’s important to exfoliate your body before you tan and after a shower. By exfoliating your skin you will keep the dead skin cells from peeling off due to dry skin. A sugar scrub or a salt scrub will loosen dead skin cells and rejuvenate healthy skin. Exfoliation will also accelerate your circulation and help remove dead or dying skin. You can also use an exfoliating brush or sponge if you do not have any of the scrubs.

3. Self Tanner

While a self tanner will not necessarily prolong your tan, it will keep your skin moisturized and give a beautiful glow so it looks as if you still have that beautiful bronze tan. A moisturizer with a small amount of self tan will gradually give you a beautiful and natural glow.

4. Take it easy

Be sure not to burn while you are in the sun and use a high SPF. This is probably the most important step but also one it’s too late to do anything about. You should always maintain your tan by being health conscious in the first place. Sunburned skin means damaged skin which again will result in peeling and flaking skin. If you take it slow and use sunscreen, you will not only get a nicer, healthier tan but you can also protect yourself against skin cancer.
