The New York Fashion Week started off the speculation about next spring’s trends, and there are quite a few important ones in the beauty department, from makeup and hair to nail innovations.
Take a look at the most important Spring 2020 beauty trends from New York Fashion Week and choose your favorite. From returning trends that started this summer to brand new ideas, here are the best beauty looks from the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
Bold Eyelids
Strong and vibrant colors are making a big statement on the runway, either on the top eyelids or on both. The most daring looks include blue at Honor, neon red at Peter Som, and pops of green glitter at Anna Sui.
If you want to make a graphic statement without the vibrant shades, Nanette Lepore experimented with white, while Cushnie et Ochs did solid black looks.
No-Makeup Makeup
The understated look was also one of the biggest Spring 2020 beauty trends from New York Fashion Week. Unlike other seasons, really bold lips were limited to a few designers, and minimal makeup was the counterpart to strong shades on the models’ eyelids. Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, Victoria Beckham and BCBG Max Azria went for subtle looks, putting more of an emphasis on highlighting and contouring in order to create the most flattering natural-looking makeup.

Lavender Eyes
If you’re into pastels, shades of lavender and soft violet seem to be one of the most influential looks at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Derek Lam went for a blended look with different shades of mauve and lavender, while Vera Wang took the shade one step further, adding matching extensions in the models’ hair.
Ponytails
High or low, the ponytail is among the best Spring 2020 beauty trends from New York Fashion Week. There’s a lot of diversity to it, from sleek ponytails with hardware accents (Wes Gordon) to Hollywood glamor waves (Jason Wu). Oscar de la Renta, Prabal Gurung and Alexander Wang also features them prominently on the runway.
Facial Embellishments
A much less wearable trend, at least at the office, facial embellishments might end up as a big thing next spring and summer. From the outrageous eyebrow rings from Rodarte to a lot of glitter glued on the skin at Monique Lhuillier, facial embellishments might definitely capture the attention of fashionistas next season. A more subtle approach was seen during the A Détacher show, with star shaped freckles.
Braids
Either perfectly put together or a little disheveled, braids made a big impact, landing among the most important Spring 2020 beauty trends from New York Fashion Week. Peter Som went for a slicker approach to plaits, DKNY opted for rope braids, and Suno showcased herringbone plaits. Michael Kors and Baja East chose more carefree and even messy plaits.
Matching Nails
As the matchy-matchy look was big in 2020, a few designers opted to match nails with either makeup or accessories. This well coordinated look included bold red lips and nails at Zac Posen, and cobalt blue nails matched with hair ties at Reed Krakoff.
Bold Brows
The natural eyebrow thread seemed to be leaving the runways, replaced by a more sleek look, but bold brows are back as one of the Spring 2020 beauty trends from New York Fashion Week. Victoria Beckham and BCBG Max Azria chose big and bold eyebrows, that were nonetheless brushed to perfection.
Temporary Tattoos
After metallic temporary tattoos make a big impression this summer, especially for music festival fashion, Tommy Hilfiger went for a dramatic look on the runway with black, green and red stars. While some designers used temporary tattoos only as face embellishments, Hilfiger went for broke with both face and torso temporary ink.
Nail Spring 2020 Trends
When it comes to nails, there’s no clear winner among the Spring 2020 beauty trends from New York Fashion Week. Creatures of Comfort went for a negative space manicure, leaving a bare stripe in the middle of the models’ nails, Sophie Theallet went for a cool twist with a double French manicure, but the most outrageous nail art was showcased by The Blonds with chains and other appliqués glued to nails.
