Why Do You Get Cellulite?

Why Do You Get Cellulite?

Women of all shapes, sizes, and ages (reaching a dreadful 90%) – and apparently some men (only about 10%) – have cellulite. How do you know you have cellulite? Well, if your thighs, bottoms or other areas of your body, such as your lower abdomen or arms, present the appearance of an “orange-peel” or “cottage cheese” skin then – unfortunately – you have cellulite. It doesn’t really matter if you’re a slim or a full-figured woman: cellulite is a “normal” condition which you might as well come to accept.

What Is Cellulite?

The “dimpling” aspect known as cellulite is a skin structure deviance caused by fat deposited between skin and muscles, pushing the connective tissue (in medical terms, fibrous septae) under the skin. This changes the naturally youthful, smooth appearance of your skin. According to experts, estrogen levels have a key role in the proper function of your blood vessels. Once these levels start to drop, you get a decreased circulation in certain areas of your body, such as your thighs, causing your “fat cells” to enlarge, becoming visible through the collagen in your skin.

What Age Do You Get Cellulite?

With age, women’s skin loses its elasticity and smoothness. It is said that normally cellulite occurs at women over 25, the “dimpling” aspect getting worse as they age, since the skin thickens. However, there are teenage girls presenting different degrees of cellulite: from barely there to deeply visible “orange-peel skin”. Unhealthy eating habits, a sedentary lifestyle with no physical activities and no exercise, excessive body fat and hormonal changes are some of the main causes of cellulite – even at an early age. Genetics is also an important factor that can determine what age you get cellulite.

Is There a Cure for Cellulite?

In spite of those miraculous claims that cosmetic products and other cellulite eliminating fads have advertised, there’s no real permanent treatment for cellulite. At best, you can visibly reduce the appearance of “orange-peel” skin with a proper diet and plenty of exercise. Before indulging yourself into expensive medical treatments, make sure you have a healthy and active lifestyle, and – most importantly do your research before taking a decision for a specific treatment.

Why Don’t Guys Get Cellulite?

It does seem rather unfair, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, only very few men get cellulite. Their connective tissue and skin layers have a structure that is very different from women’s, which makes “dimples” or “orange-peel” skin apparition caused by fat deposits very unlikely.
