Gearing up for the promotional campaign of his upcoming movie, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, actor Andrew Garfield graces the cover of V Man June 2020, where he showed off his charm posing for the camera lens of Inez & Vinoodh. The 28-year-old heartthrob also gushed about his role in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, so check out excerpts of his interview with V Man mag and find out more about the hot stud.
This is not just another interview as interestingly, Andrew was interviewed by none other than his predecessor in the role of Spider-Man, actor Tobey Maguire, so the interview is definitely worth your attention. To start off the conversation, actor Tobey Maguire asked about the experience of playing Biff in the ‘Death of a Salesman’ and Mr. Garfield replied that:
“Of course going through this kind of release and catharsis, facing all your demons in a space of three hours every night—it can be incredibly rewarding. It’s invigorating. It’s a great challenge, a great test and opportunity. There’s something very pure about it. There are no frills and there’s nowhere to hide and you have to be vulnerable as hell, and you have to serve something much greater than yourself, which is this incredible work of art that you’re trying to bring to life. It’s a wonderful, lucky opportunity for any actor to have. But, yeah, the majority of the time I wake up in the morning I’m kind of confused as to why I decided to do it. [Laughs] But you have to heave yourself up!”
He’s landed one of the most sought-after roles in the movie industry, as after all the Spider-Man trilogy managed to ‘push the boundaries’ and reach one of the highest opening-day gross marks, so how did he do it?! Well, according to Andrew:
“It was pretty basic, apart from it being more dragged out and pressure-filled and dramatic than any other audition process I’ve ever been through. They like to put you through the ringer, in the respect that it creates drama and tension among a generation of actors.
This is a not your average movie role and Andrew Garfield knows that he’ll have to reach or surpass the high standards reached by the previous ‘Spider-Man’ actors as he tells V Man that “the main thing I’m thinking about and worrying about is what happens after this movie comes out.”
The interview took an interesting turn when Andrew wanted to know all about Tobey’s experience playing the role of Peter Parker in ‘Spider-Man’. The 36 year old actor revealed that his experience was indeed shocking and changed his life immediately after making its debut. He said:
“I think our thing was a little bit different because movies hadn’t been doing the sort of opening-weekend business that’s fairly common even expected today. The first Harry Potter came out about six months before us and it was this phenomenon from Day one. It was so wild because it was a new thing at that moment and I’m not saying that hasn’t happened in movie history, but at the time that was a big jump. And then that happened with us. People didn’t anticipate [2020’s Spider- Man] to be like that. Leading up to it you start to get reactions and people tell you, you know, what the tracking is and what range your opening weekend box office is likely to be, but for me it was kind of unexpected. So much shifted in my life the weekend the movie came out, it was shocking.”
