For a dad to see his daughter doing pretty scandalous things, is really dramatic especially if the paparazzi are in your footstep looking for the best moment to make you feel embarrassed. The Cyrus family is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after subjects in the media, therefore the interview given by Billy Ray Cyrus to GQ did make a real sensation. The fact that Billy Ray Cyrus says Hannah Montana destroyed their life is indeed surprising as apparently they were diving in success taking full advantage of the popularity this series brought the whole family. The interview is indeed fascinating and we’ll have the chance to find out how the father reacted to seeing her daughter doing a lap dance as well as smoking a bong.
Billy Ray Cyrus claims that he “never made a dime off Miley” in spite of appearing in Hannah Montana. Additionally he also revealed the reason why not attending the 18th birthday party: “You know why I didn’t go?
Because they were having it in a bar,” he said. “It was wrong. It was for 21 years old and up. Once again all them people, they all wanted me to fly out so that then when all the bad press came they could say, ‘Daddy endorsed this stuff. …’ I started realizing I’m being used. If I would have went out there, I would have been right in the middle of all this stuff that’s going on right now with the bong.
They’d be hanging it on my ass. I had the common sense … I said, ‘This whole thing’s falling apart up there and they just want to blame all of this stuff on you again.’ I’m staying out of it.”
The successful singer claims that he is tired of offering any explanations to the acts of his daughter. Therefore he decided to skip the public events that might end up making him the main culprit for the nasty deeds of Miley. It seems that problems appeared during the fourth season of Hannah Montana when his marriage was in a critical stage and he couldn’t devote as much attention to the private and professional life of Miley. He states to GQ that: “I’ll tell you right now — the damn show destroyed my family.”
After the bong video the media was on its toes to find out what the opinion of the father really was. However it seems that instead appearing public with Miley, Billy Ray Cyrus decided to support her through text messages in which he stated that: “You know what, there’s no doubt I did stuff when I was a teenager that I’m sure could have turned out horribly,” he said. “I’ve done some stupid crap — I do stupid crap. We all do. But it’s different when you sit back and you see it happening to your little girl. I feel like I got to try. It’s my daughter. And some of these handlers are perhaps more interested in handling Miley’s money than her safety and her career.”
Finally he is asked about the future of Miley Cyrus’ career and how tragic it could end up, to which the father answers the following: “I don’t know. I’m her daddy so maybe I’m a little sensitive to it, but now’s a real good time to make sure everything’s OK. An ounce of prevention’s worth a pound of cure.”
