Catherine Zeta-Jones, one of Hollywood’s most beautiful women, has been greatly admired lately due to the strength and devotion she demonstrated while supporting her husband, Michael Douglas, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2020. Fortunately, this is a battle that was won, but it seems that the intense pressure took its tole on Catherine Zeta-Jones, as she has sought help for treating Bipolar disorder.
Catherine and Douglas have been happily married for a decade, although there is a significant age difference between the two. They seem to have formed a strong bond as the couple decided to renew their vows after Michael was diagnosed with the horrific illness. Although Catherine looked as strong as a rock, the stress suffered throughout this period has left its print, so she decided to seek help at a mental facility for treatment.
According to People, Catherine Zeta-Jones’s representative stated that the movie star has taken this decision on her own.
“After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II disorder,” the rep said in the statement. “She’s feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films.”
Bipolar disorder is a mental illness which can be triggered by stress of life changes and which manifests itself through irritability alternating with depression states. Apparently, millions of Americans are affected by this disorder, and to overcome it, treatment is usually necessary. It seems that Catherine has received treatment for about 5 days and she is now feeling well.
A source close to the couple tells People that the stress which Catherine had to endure during her husband’s battle against cancer has affected her, but she is feeling fine now, and is just trying to get back on track to ensure she manages to shine on the set of her upcoming movie.
“Catherine has had deal with Michael’s illness and that’s been hard. She went in for a few days because she’s about to start working, and wanted to make sure she’s in top form, which she is.”
We just hope Catherine manages to get back on track and enjoy her time with her amazing family. We wish this inspirational couple all the best!
