Whether they pout or put on a very serious face, some celebrities just don’t like smiling that much in public, particularly when photographers are taking pictures.
Some celebrities who never smile have even been attacked for their seemingly sour mood. From Kanye West and Kristen Stewart, who just don’t like smiling in photos, to Victoria Beckham and the Olsen twins, who have taken the example of other big names in fashion who never smile, here are the celebs who prefer to keep a straight face in public.
Kanye West
The rapper definitely doesn’t have a sense of humor about himself, and that’s very clear when you look at most pictures of him. He also thinks it’s not cool.
“People, you know the paparazzi, always come up to me, ‘Why you not smiling?’ and I think, not smiling makes me smile… When you see paintings in an old castle, people are not smiling ‘cause it just wouldn’t look as cool”, he explained at The Daily Front Row’s Fashion Los Angeles Awards.
Victoria Beckham
While she had plenty of smiles to share in her “Spice Girls” days, Victoria Beckham’s demeanor definitely changed once she got into fashion. The designer is one of the celebrities who never smile, and she opened up about it in Vogue’s 73 Questions: “I’m smiling on the inside. I feel that I have a responsibility to the fashion community.”
Kristen Stewart
Another celebrity known for her refusal to crack a smile on the red carpet, Kristen Stewart feels that smiling would mean that she enjoys the attention. “Now I feel like if I smiled for a paparazzi photo – not that I ever would – that’s exactly what people would be desecrating me for. They’d be like, ‘Now you’re going to give it up, now you’re a sellout.’ Like, okay. What do you want? What would you like?” Stewart told Elle magazine.
Eminem
Keeping up his tough guy persona means Eminem is also one of the celebrities who never smile. He doesn’t do it in video, in concerts or even in public appearances. While he definitely has a sense of humor about himself, making a cameo in “The Interview” where he comes out as gay, he prefers to keep the smiling off camera.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
After winning the hearts of a generation with their smiles in “Full House”, the Olsen twins have also taken the Victoria Beckham approach to looking cool once they got into fashion design. Ashley and Mary-Kate do have a signature red carpet pout, but they avoid outright smiling.
Taylor Momsen
While she had to smile for “Gossip Girl”, Taylor Momsen is a lot less inclined to do it on stage, when she’s performing with her band “The Pretty Reckless” or on the red carpet. Even after she toned down the goth-rocker look, she remained one of the celebrities who never smile.
Edward Norton
He rarely brings his smile along to the red carpet, and he doesn’t really seem to have a sunny disposition in general. Edward Norton also has a reputation of being difficult to work with, so he probably doesn’t really smile that much on set either.
Keira Knightley
The English actress is also one of the celebrities who never smile, at least on the red carpet. Keira Knightley sticks to a pout when she’s out, and it’s all because of a bad experience during a photo shoot. “I’ve been told I have a horrible smile. I had a fashion photographer tell me once, ‘Remember never smile, it doesn’t look good on you.’ It was when I was about 16. Every time I have my picture taken I think, ‘Oh God, I’m not going to smile. It looks horrendous.’ So thank you very much,” she told The Huffington Post.

Daniel Craig
The 007 star also has a reputation for rarely smiling, and he claims it’s all because of a British tabloid. “The Daily Mail loves saying ‘He never smiles’ – yeah, because I know you’re f****** taking pictures of me, that’s why. Because the Daily Mail comes to mind every time I see a camera. I challenge anybody to f****** smile. I’m just not that person,” he told Time Out.
Kate Moss
After coining the heroin chic look in the ‘90s, one of the biggest supermodels in the world also joined the list celebrities who never smile, especially for the paparazzi.
