While prom night is the most exciting high school social event for most students, some celebrities chose not to attend their own, or just couldn’t make it. Whether they couldn’t get a date or had something better to do, these celebs skipped their own prom.
Check out a few celebrities who never went to prom and find out more about why they didn’t go. From Miley Cyrus and Josh Hutcherson to Drake and Ashley Benson, these celebs missed prom and many of them ended up regretting it.
Miley Cyrus
Skipping prom for a good reason, Miley Cyrus spent the day while shooting “The Last Song”, the movie where she met her former fiancé Liam Hemsworth.
Miley wasn’t sad that she missed her prom, explaining that “I would be like the single loner at the back of the prom… That’s the worst! I am not going to do that. That is like the worst. You shouldn’t even go.”
Josh Hutcherson
While Miley was happy with her decision, some celebrities who never went to prom were pretty bummed out about it. “The Hunger Games” star Josh Hutcherson told Teen Vogue he wasn’t happy with missing all his opportunities to go to prom. “I never got to go to a real prom. Not once. It’s kinda sad,” Hutcherson explained.
Ariana Grande
The singer also missed every opportunity to go to prom, but she opened to Teen.com about her dream prom. Her ideal prom date is Leonardo DiCaprio, and Ariana would also prefer if she didn’t have to put out the invitation. “I think a guy should always ask a girl,” Grande said, adding that she’d probably go for a strapless dress.
Madonna
For some celebrities who never went to prom the problem wasn’t scheduling, but getting a date. The Queen of Pop “sat home alone. Couldn’t get a date,” according to PageSix.com. While she didn’t get to enjoy her prom at Rochester Hills High School in 1975, Madonna soon moved to New York, and her looks ended up as the inspirations for many prom dresses.
Robin Thicke and Paula Patton
Even though they had been dating for more than a year and half in high school, Paula Patton and Robin Thicke didn’t get to enjoy the prom. The reason was the fact that Paula had lied to her friends about Robin being black, a decision she ended up regretting. The singer forgave her and years later even dedicated an album to her, hoping to get her back.
James Franco
Finding a date wasn’t a problem from James Franco, but he still ended up as one of the celebrities who never went to prom, because he decided to spend the day with his girlfriend in Aspen. Franco’s prom was also on the day of his 18th anniversary, so he didn’t regret the decision to skip it. “We had our own little prom,” he told Lindzi.com.
Paul Wesley
Even though many fans of “The Vampire Diaries” would do anything to take him to prom, Paul Wesley wasn’t really popular in high school. “I definitely wasn’t invited to any of the cool parties. Girls didn’t like me that much. I didn’t even go to my prom,” he told Teen Vogue. Paul was already working hard to fulfill his acting ambitions back then, getting cast in soap operas “Another World” and “Guiding Light” in his junior year.
Ashley Benson
The “Pretty Little Liars” admitted to being one of the celebrities who never went to prom when she appeared in a campaign for Faviana, a fashion brand that specializes in dresses for prom and other special occasions. “This is supercool for me because I never got to go to prom. I remember when I was younger, my sister would be going and I would help her pick out her dress, and now I get to do that for my fans,” she told StyleCaster.
Drake
After getting cast in “Degrassi: The Next Generation”, Drake put his studies on hold for a while. Because he dropped out of high school, the rapper never got the chance to go to prom.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
The actor spent most of his high school years on the set of “3rd Rock from the Sun”, but the reason he is one of the celebrities who never went to prom is the fact that he didn’t find a suitable date. He told GQ that he was “snobby” and “serious” back then. “I thought the girls my age were very frustrating,” he explained.
