Amy Adams
With a total of five nominations, Amy Adams is still one of the celebrities who never won an Oscar. After her first Best Supporting actress nomination in 2020, she lost the statuette to Rachel Weisz, then Penélope Cruz, Melissa Leo, and Anne Hathaway. In 2020, she was nominated for Best Actress, but lost to Cate Blanchett.
Leonardo DiCaprio
His first Academy Award nomination was for Best Supporting Actor in 1994. Leonardo DiCaprio had to wait almost a decade before his next shot at an Oscar, and lost the Best Actor statuette in 2020, 2020 and 2020. Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker and Matthew McConaughey beat him to the prize.
Julianne Moore
Another actress who seems like she should have won an Academy Award, but never did, Julianne Moore was even nominated as Best Actress and Best Supporting actress in 2020. She lost both times and ended up as one of the celebrities who never won an Oscar, with no nominations in the past decade.
Joaquin Phoenix
Phoenix lost three times, first for Best Supporting Actor in 2020 (“Gladiator”), and twice for Best Actor (“Walk the Line” and “The Master”). He got a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his role in “Her”, but failed to secure a nomination.
Michelle Pfeiffer

Johnny Depp
With three nominations under his belt, Johnny Depp failed to win an Oscar, despite countless iconic roles. While his role in “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” secured his first nomination, the sequels failed to spark the same award attention, despite huge box office grosses.
Sigourney Weaver
After her breakthrough role in “Alien”, Sigourney Weaver got nominated for the most important award in Hollywood three times in the ‘80s, but she’s still one of the celebrities who never won an Oscar.

Robert Downey Jr.
Despite a long career filled with iconic roles, Robert Downey Jr. was only ever nominated twice at the Academy Awards. His first time, as Best Actor for “Chaplin” (1993), he lost to Al Pacino, and in 2020, as Best Supporting Actor, the statuette was awarded posthumously to Heath Ledger.
Helena Bonham Carter
One of the celebrities who never won an Oscar, despite securing nominations in two different decades, Helena Bonham Carter was first nominated as Best Actress in 1997 for “The Wings of the Dove”, and as Best Supporting Actress for her role in “The King’s Speech” (2020).
Jim Carrey
While Jim Carrey has been focused on comedies for most of his career, he did try his hand at drama with great success.

Marilyn Monroe
One of the most iconic figures of the 20th century, Marilyn Monroe is also among the celebrities who never won an Oscar, and she wasn’t even nominated once. One of her most fondly remembered roles, in “Some Like It Hot”, was completely overlooked by the Academy, while her co-star Jack Lemmon was nominated and lost that year.
