While Beyoncé made headlines when she decided to go vegan for a month and then launch her own vegan meal delivery service, other celebrities don’t get the same attention for their dietary choices.
Check out a few celebrities you didn’t know were vegan, either because they’re not often included on PETA’s lists of celebrity vegan, or because they’re only discussed it a few times. From Peter Dinklage to Carrie Underwood, here are the celebs who stick to a vegetarian or vegan diet.
Peter Dinklage
The “Game of Thrones” star has stopped eating meat since his teens. “At the time I was doing it because of my love for animals, but also for a girl. Of course. I have continued to stay with it out of my great respect for animals, though.
Any form of animal abuse is pretty upsetting to me,” he told his fans during his Reddit AMA.
Ariana Grande
The singer could also be one of the celebrities you didn’t know were vegan, since she only decided in 2020 to stop eating meat altogether. “I love animals more than I love most people, not kidding. But I am a firm believer in eating a full plant-based, whole food diet that can expand your life length and make you an all-around happier person. It is tricky dining out, but I just stick to what I know — veggies, fruit and salad — then when I get home I’ll have something else, ” Grande told the Mirror.
Jared Leto
The Academy Award winner and “30 Seconds to Mars” frontman gets a lot of praise for his youthful look, and he claims it’s all about what he eats and how much he sleeps. “I’m pretty healthy so I think that helps a lot. I’ve been that way for a long time. Twenty solid years of eating vegetarian/vegan and taking care of myself. That probably helps the preservation process,” Leto told Billboard magazine.
Natalie Portman
“I’ve been vegetarian since I was nine and vegan on and off,” the actress told Hello! magazine. Portman could be one of the celebrities you didn’t know were vegan because she only decided to go full vegan for good when she was pregnant with her first child. She even served a completely vegan menu on her wedding.

Joaquin Phoenix
The Academy Award nominee decided to go vegan after a traumatic experience in his childhood, when he confronted his parents while on a fishing boat. He’s been vegan since the age of three, and has even contributed to PETA PSAs.
Emily Deschanel
Even though her sister Zooey gave up trying to eat a meat-free, Emily is very happy with her lifestyle, as one of the celebrities you didn’t know were vegan. The “Bones” actress even tried to help her co-star give up meat. “I think I can convince anyone to become a vegetarian. David Boreanaz used to make fun of me for being a vegan, but then I started giving him vegan food to eat, and he loves it. Now he tries to eat vegetarian 1 day a week,” the actress told Women’s Health.
Woody Harrelson
“I used to eat burgers and steak, and I would just be knocked out afterward; I had to give it up. The first thing was dairy. I was about 24 years old and I had tons of acne and mucus. I met some random girl on a bus who told me to quit dairy and all those symptoms would go away three days later. By God she was right,” the “True Detective” star told Maxim.
Carrie Underwood
If the singer is one of the celebrities you didn’t know were vegan, it’s probably because she’s not very strict about it, and she didn’t fight her non-vegan cravings during her pregnancy. “I have been a little more vegetarian than vegan especially with traveling, so it’s a little hard to order food from hotels and stuff when you’re vegan,” Underwood told ET.
Jason Mraz
After sticking to a plant-based diet for a few months, singer Jason Mraz opened up about the effects on his blog: “I ride longer distances on my bike, can do more pull-ups than ever, and my brain seems to have a larger capacity for new projects, problem solving, songwriting, and fielding random questions… It also makes me a lot better in bed.”
Lea Michele
The “Glee” star could also be one of the celebrities you didn’t know were vegan, because she occasionally eats fish, explaining that her vegan diet “fluctuates”.
