She plays sweet cheerleader Quinn Fabray in the television series ‘Glee’. On the January 2020 cover of Nylon magazine, Dianna Agron revives the ’60s photographed by Marvin Scott Jarrett. In the interview, the lovely actress opens up and talks about her ‘Glee’ audition and her character in the movie, her high school years, her new website, You and Me and Charlie, and Christmas shopping. “I realized that if I don’t do Christmas early, I don’t give people meaningful gifts. I’m maybe halfway done with my Christmas shopping, which makes me feel over-prepared and happy at the same time,” Dianna said about holiday shopping.
Speaking about her actual high school years, the actress recalls that, “We watched Practical Magic and all of those movies, like The Craft. My friend’s mom had all these Stevie Nicks outfits, and we’d gypsy dance in her living room and have seances. We’d mix all these things from the refrigerator together and we’d look at it and be like, ‘This means you’re going to find true love when you’r 18 years old’.”
As for her childhood, Agron says that, “I was lucky because I could just embrace being so young – having the guy that you like to throw rocks at your window and him being like ‘Come outside!’ and being so nervous and sneaking out and being like ‘Let’s run to the park!’ and then just running down the street, laughing, like, ‘Oh my God, what if your mom and dad came out right now?’”
On her ‘Glee’ audition, Dianna told ‘Nylon’ that, “They were going to scrap the character but Robert [Ulrich, the casting director] asked for one more chance. I went in and read, and they called me back two days later, and he told me to come back and straighten my hair, and wear something sexy. I was like, ‘First of all, what is…”sexy”?’…I went to like, a CVS, and bought a straightener and straightened it at Starbucks.”
As for her character in the TV series, the actress admits that, “Especially in the beginning, [reporters] really wanted us to be like our characters, to simplify things… I was playing a well put-together popular character, and they were trying to push me into it, like that had been my entire life. And the whole time, my teenage self was crying at that.”
Speaking about Quinn Fabray’s future, Dianna says that, “Essentially, I’m a senior, so, I’ll probably graduate this year.” And the actress confesses that it’s going to be extremely hard saying goodbye to her ‘Glee’co-stars. “The first days of not being in the company of those amazing people, I’m going to cry my eyes out. We’re taking it day by day,” she told the magazine.
In the accompanying cover story, Dianna also dishes on her new website, You and Me and Charlie, “It’s mainly arts-based, but it’s also a forum for people to love and support each other. I realized that just by posting something, I can really influence someone’s day,” the actress says. However, this is not Agron’s first web project. “The Tumblr site was kind of an experiment. We were in Australia on tour with the show and I thought, I’m traveling, I love photography, I’m not filming – it’d be fun to do something creative, so I started posting photos and the music I was listening to,” she told Nylon.
