Eva Mendes heats up Marie Claire’s March 2020 issue. The 37-year-old strikes a sultry pose and surrenders to the femme fatale style of screen siren Sophia Loren. In the accompanying interview, Eva dishes on working with Ryan Gosling, her idols, but she also reveals some of her secrets for sexy hair, bombshell body and glowing skin. In her latest film, the art-house indie ‘Girl in Progress’, Mendes plays a single mom who is so wrapped up in her own life that she fails to see that her chess-champ teenager is turning into a party girl. “She’s a disaster, a mess, which I really love,” Eva says of her character.
Throughout her 13-year career, Eva has mostly played the other woman. Besides being a talented actress, she is also international spokeswoman for famous brands such as Revlon, Pantene and Thierry Mugler. “I have taken the opportunities that have come my way and made the best of them,” Mendes told Marie Claire. And her role in ‘Girl in Progress’ is a turn and a first step towards her transformation from big-screen sex symbol to respected actress. Speaking about her idols, Julianne Moore and Annette Bening, Eva confesses that, “I have a girl crush on them. I’d kill to have half the careers they’ve had after 40.”
On her personal issues, Eva admits that she solves them in the privacy of a therapist’s office. She told the magazine that boundaries are a necessity and that this type of problems shouldn’t be dealt with publicly. Boundaries, she says, are “necessary not just to be a celebrity, but to be a healthy individual.” Currently, the actress is dating 31-year-old actor Ryan Gosling. The two are starring in the upcoming crime drama ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’. On working with her beau, Eva admits that, “He’s your dream costar. I have never felt so creatively satisfied on a film.”
Eva sits down for a chat with Marie Claire and dishes on body image. “It doesn’t matter what you have or what you look like. It’s something everyone has to work at. I realize I have contributed to a certain happy, healthy, empowered image, but that’s not all of me. I feel it’s important to let women know that I have similar struggles. What I tell girls is what they don’t like about themselves now, they will probably end up loving as an adult, because that’s what happened to me. When I am complimented on things that I didn’t like when I was 13, like my overbite and my mole, that’s when you realize that your imperfections are why people love you,” the actress says.
In the interview with the magazine, Eva reveals some of her beauty secrets. On her workout routine, the actress says that, “I run four to five times a week, mixing it up among distance running, intervals on a track, and running uphill on a treadmill.” As on her diet, Mendes admits that, “I don’t eat meat and stopped eating chicken — my skin has gotten a lot better.”
Speaking about her beauty favorites, Eva confesses that she’s not so much into red lipstick. “I like Dr. Perricone products, which have a minimum of ingredients and really work. I also use Laura Mercier’s moisturizing foundation and eyeshadows. I’m not a fan of red lipstick — I go for anything peachy or pinky,” the actress says.
She then reveals a trick for sexy hair. “I have big, wavy, crazy hair, so it works best for me when I let it be. Here’s a trick I learned from my mother: If your hair is a little greasy and you don’t have the time to shampoo, put some baby powder at the roots and at the ends. It gives you that ’70s textured look,” Eva explains. On the go-to outfit, the actress says that, “I’m not a big jeans girl. Usually when I go out, it’ll be in a dress — something floral or ultrafeminine.”
