Gorgeous January Jones strikes a pose for the May issue of Marie Claire, the UK edition. The 33-year-old former model-turned actress, playing suffering wife and mother of two Betty Draper in the Emmy award-winning TV drama ‘Mad Men’, admits she is not so much into interviews.
“When I talk about myself, half the time I’m lying.” [And now?] “Maybe. I do it because I’m bored of talking about myself, or I have nothing left to say, or I want to be private that day.” Then, she adds: “Everybody writes that they think I’m so unhappy,” she says. [And that’s not the case?] “Not at all. I’m in my own head. I’m doing things. Keeping things interesting,” she told the magazine.
Still, January Jones had a lot to share for next month’s Marie Claire, speaking about ex-boyfriend Ashton Kutcher, friendship, and love life, confessing she always wanted to keep certain things private. Despite her success, January always managed to keep her feet on the ground. And this is a big thing when talking about Hollywood.
“I don’t like living with other people,” she says, “and I don’t mind being alone. I don’t like having an entourage of people around me. I have a select group of friends who I hang out with. I just don’t really have a lot of time or energy to put into a relationship where nothing’s going to happen,” January told Marie Claire.
When being asked about the reason she wanted to become an actress, January Jones states that, “I’m masochistic. I’m afraid of judgement and I couldn’t think of a job where you’re more open to judgement, more exposed. I always have to face my fears.” As for her former boyfriend Ashton Kutcher and all the rumors about how he told her she wouldn’t make it as an actress, January just says that, “I don’t comment about that. And I never commented about him.”
‘Mad Men’ is set in the early 1960s, in New York City, and it is centered on Don Draper (Jon Hamm) and those in his life, both in and out of the office. Betty Draper is the role that launched January’s Hollywood career. “I’d done films, but never TV,” she explained. “I was hesitant because it was a five-year contract and there wasn’t really a role for Betty in the pilot,” January says.
This are good times for Jones, whose hard work and ‘fearless tenacity’ are now visible. “I think this is a really good moment for me, careerwise,” January says. Then she added that, “Nothing ever came to me too easily or too fast, so I’ve been able to adjust. I’ve never got too bitter or jaded.”
January Jones rocks incredible outfits in the May issue of Marie Claire. She wears Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, Versace and Diane Von Furstenberg, photographed by Guy Aroch.
