Jennifer Lawrence graces Glamour’s April 2020 UK and US covers. The lovely 21-year-old actress sits down for a chat with the magazine and talks about a wide range of topics including playing Katniss Everdeen in ‘The Hunger Games’, getting in shape and dieting, her take on life in the public eye, but also about Hollywood, kissing co-stars, body confidence and why British men are attractive.
The actress admits that when she first heard that ‘The Hunger Games’ is being turned into a movie her thoughts weren’t so optimistic. “When I heard they were making the movie, I was like, ‘oh, that’s nice — they’re going to ruin another great book.’ But then I met Gary [Ross, the director], and he was unbelievable and brilliant and genius,” Jennifer says.
On accepting the role of Katniss, Lawrence admits, “I gave myself three days. I knew from reading the books that I loved The Hunger Games. I just didn’t know if it was worth changing my life for,” she says. “I’m at a peaceful place right now. The people who used to ignore me at parties, now they’re nice to me and kissing my ass. But nobody’s staked outside my house. I wanted to make sure that when I said yes, I wouldn’t regret it. And I don’t regret it. I would have said no because I was scared, and then I would have been that bitter actress telling my grandkids, ‘I’m the one that turned it down,’” she told Glamour,” the actress added.
Speaking about life spent in the public eye, Jennifer Lawrence told Glamour US that even though it is sometimes difficult, satisfactions are plenty. Besides, the actress said that she hates when actors complain. “In some ways, it’s a hard life, but it’s a great professional life. I’m doing what I love, and then I get months and months of rest. I have a lot of money for a 21-year-old. I can’t stand it when actors complain,” Jennifer explains.
She then admitted in her interview with British Glamour that, “Everyone always has to play this whole, ‘Oh my God, I don’t want to be in the spotlight’ game. They think that the way to win people’s hearts is to complain about fame, when actually there are so many great sides to it. I’m an actor and I love my job. I can take months off, and I get a lot of money – way more money than any 21-year-old should have – so what is there to complain about?”
When it comes to dieting, the actress confesses that, “I don’t diet. I do exercise! But I don’t diet. You can’t work when you’re hungry, you know?” Moreover, Jennifer says that, “I hate saying, ‘I like exercising.’ I want to punch people who say that in the face. But it’s nice being in shape for a movie, because they basically do it all for you. It’s like, ‘Here’s your trainer. This is what you can eat.’”
In the US Glamour, Lawrence also dishes on adjusting to her life as a famous actress. “Just recently I started letting myself eat things from the minibar. When we were kids, we would never open the minibar. A $6 Snickers bar? But the other day I was in a hotel and I was staring at a Snickers bar, and I finally just ate it. Then it was like something in me snapped. I opened all these drinks. I thought: I can do it now. Now I’m all grown-up. I can eat things from the minibar,” she says.
In her interview with Glamour UK, Lawrence dishes on losing weight while filming ‘The Hunger Games’. “Because I did so much training – running, archery, and Pilates – over the course of two months, it all happened pretty naturally. You can’t diet when you’re filming a movie like The Hunger Games, running in 100 degree weather and doing all those stunts, so I was eating a ton. Anyway, Katniss is meant to be a hunter; she’s meant to be scary. Kate Moss running at you with a bow and arrow isn’t scary,” the actress told the magazine.
On British men, Jennifer confesses that, “Well, they have these wonderful manners, and everything they say is funnier, just because of the accent. I like the way that accent changes, too. There’s the cute, ‘I’m trying to be adorable because I know that you’re mad at me’ accent – and then the drunk accent where all the consonants have vanished.”
