Need another reason to love the ‘Roar’ singer? Then, you should know that Katy Perry is the newest UNICEF Goodwill ambassador. Between making catchy songs, being a Covergirl ambassador and promoting her new scent, the pop star also found time to support a cause she believes in. The new role entails serious commitments. She is expected to find ways to improve the lives of vulnerable, impoverished children and teenagers who are affected by neglect, abuse or violence and figure out how to effectively draw attention to the issue.

UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake explained that: “Katy Perry is already a champion for children, and we look forward to hearing her ‘roar’ on behalf of UNICEF. We are delighted that she is joining us as UNICEF’s newest Goodwill Ambassador and lending her remarkable voice to amplify the voices of children and young people around the world.”

The superstar went on a trip to Madagascar earlier this year and saw first hand the issues the vulnerable group faces on a daily basis. It made a big impression on her, but it also made her hopeful that she can make a difference in her new role. “I believe young people have the power to change their own lives, with our help. I am honoured to join UNICEF as a Goodwill Ambassador, and committed to doing everything I can to help children and adolescents who come from such different backgrounds, but want the same thing: a brighter future,” she stated.

The experience also helped her see her life in a new way: “It changed my life. It really kind of reprioritized my thinking, and my whole approach on life, and how to find my own joy and my own happiness that isn’t being from material possessions and social status,” she added. She’s also tried to make a difference by asking her massive fan base to support UNICEF’s emergency relief efforts for children, including those affected by Typhoon Haiyan, which struck the Philippines in early November.

The worthy case drew a lot of support from various celebrities over the years. David Beckham, Orlando Bloom, Jackie Chan, Mia Farrow and Susan Sarandon were other celebrities who dedicated their time to find solutions to make a difference over the years.
