It seems that the famous “Tik Tok” singer Ke$ha, has gotten her hands on a lawsuit as she is being sued by her former managers. Ke$ha is sued by her former managers for the whopping sum of $14 million as they claim she has breached a contract she had signed back in 2020. Apparently Ke$ha has signed a contract in which she agrees to pay DAS Communications 20% of her earnings if they help her sign with a major label on a period of 12 months.
Ke$ha has since then climbed on a mountain of fame and has been recognized on an international level. Her hit songs “Tik Tok” and “Blah blah blah” have helped her income increase substantially and so DAS Communications believes that she has to share her profit.
However Ke$ha did not score a deal with a major label within the 12 month period she had an agreement with DAS but the company claims that she did not pull out with the firm until she met Dr. Luke. The company claims that they would still have had an agreement if Dr. Luke wouldn’t have influenced Ke$ha to cut ties with DAS. The company considers Ke$ha’s success was due to their team effort and that she has breached her contract by not paying them the percentage they have prior agreed to.
The legal documents state: “Although she has made an incredible amount of money in a very short period of time, in large part due to DAS’ efforts on her behalf, she could just as easily lose money if not properly guided”
However the surprising thing is that Ke$ha has terminated her contract with DAS in 2020, through a written paper, and until then she had not yet signed with any major label but that is not considered legal by DAS and they want Ke$ha to pay up to $14 million in damages.
Ken Freundlich, who is DAS’s rep said that Ke$ha has breached the contract by cutting off ties with the firm without any justification so they are seeking damages. He stated: “DAS was Ke$ha’s manager since the beginning of 2020, and there was a written agreement, and they worked closely, and sometime in September 2020 Dr. Luke, for his own personal gain, somehow induced her to breach that contract. And she unceremoniously terminated DAS without justification and then ended up with Luke, basically.”
“We’re going to have our day in court. And we’re going to prove that Dr. Luke induced her to breach the contract. She had no right to do so, and we’re going get damages from her.”
Ke$ha seems to be stunned by the firm’s claims and she if firing back stating that she doesn’t owe DAS anything as she has earned most of her money in 2020, two years after she has broken the contract with them. Ke$ha has hired a lawyer to help her demonstrate that she has no obligations towards DAS. Kesha’s lawyer, Charles Ortner said: “This lawsuit seeks to require her to pay DAS head David Sonenberg commissions on her RCA/Jive record deal that he had nothing to do with, long after she terminated him in writing.”
Hopefully everything sorts out well, but until then we wait for the court’s decision!
