After being admitted to hospital two weeks ago, Miley Cyrus is finally feeling better. The star opened up about her “scary” hospital stay which was the result of an allergy to a medicine that is typically used as an alternative to penicillin and which caused her to eventually postpone her U.S. concert dates and cancel her concert in North Carolina.
The star told Ryan Seacrest in a radio interview on Monday morning that she was unaware that she was allergic to the medicine and that she became scared once she started developing symptoms like breathing difficulties: ”I had gotten sick on the road. I feel like everyone’s gotten this ongoing cough thing. … It felt like I had a little bit of like the flu, cold situation. So they gave me some medicine. I was on this medicine for five days—everything was all good—and on the sixth day, I just woke up and it was so scary. When you’re allergic to something, you’re basically poisoning yourself, so I had just basically been poisoning myself with something I didn’t know I was really scary allergic to. It was so scary.”
Miley Cyrus’s hospitalization also seemed to be the cause of several impulsive decisions. The controversial singer confessed she was bored to tears during her stay and it made her gorge on ice-cream and Cracker Barrel: “I was stuck in Kansas when I was in the hospital, so I wouldn’t eat anything—because the medicine made me sick—except Cracker Barrel. So all I did for five days was be on steroids to get myself better and eat Cracker Barrel.”
Another activity that helped her kill time was online shopping. “I did way too much online shopping,” she added. While her allergic reaction could last up to 27 days, she has taken a few precautions to minimize the chances of relapse, mentioning that she’s on the market for a “fashionable ID bracelet” that alerts her when she’s having a reaction to the medicine.
Despite these difficulties, it seems like the unplanned break had its upsides as the star’s looking forward to going back on tour and perform in the shows she missed, which have been rescheduled for the first half of August.
