The Catholic League decided to take action against the anti-religious behavior of the rapper diva. We find out from the latest celebrity gossips that Nicki Minaj is slammed for mocking the Catholic Church in her Grammy performance in which she used the theme of a ‘live exorcism’ to shock the audience and the media. First Nicki Minaj appeared on the red carpet with a strange man dressed as The Pope.
According to the diva, who revealed in Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show that the controversial show had in the central role her alter ego Roman Zolanski, “I had this vision for Roman for him to be sort of exorcised. People around him tell him he’s not good enough because he’s not normal and he’s not blending in with the Average Joe.”
The mock-religious show was undoubtedly a complex performance. The fans could watch a Catholic confession sesh, signs of demonic possession, a levitation scene and a few dancing monks. Nicki also added that, “The people around (Roman) him are afraid because they’ve never seen anything like him. He wanted to show that not only is he amazing…But he’s never going to change. He’s never going to be exorcised,[…]Even when they throw the holy water on him, he still rises above.”
The Catholic League decided to react to the offensive performance. President, Bill Donohue claimed that, “Whether Minaj is possessed is surely an open question, but what is not in doubt is the irresponsibility of The Recording Academy. Never would they allow an artist to insult Judaism or Islam[…] It’s bad enough that Catholics have to fight for their rights vis-a-vis a hostile administration in Washington without also having to fend off attacks in the entertainment industry,[…] The net effect, however, will only embolden Catholics, as well as their friends in other faith communities.”
The President of the League also wrote on their website that, “Perhaps the most vulgar part was the sexual statement that showed a scantily clad female dancer stretching backwards while an altar boy knelt between her legs in prayer.” Nicki Minaj offered a simple answer to all the accusations, “the most comfortable I’ve ever been onstage”.
